Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

Hey every1
I just wanted to know what u all think about this old tradition ‘SYED GIRL CANT MARRY A NON SYED GUY’ To what extent is it true??? Does any1 have any proof or prophet’s saying or hawala from Quran? I personally dont think religion has anything to do with this but i m not sure…so can u guys give me feed back on this??? I would really appreciate it.
P.S. Please dont relate it to me cuz i dont support this idea.

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

As far as culture part goes; " you are known from your dad's side mom side does not matter". If that is the case then Prophet [PBUH} only had grandsons from his daughter!

It has been mentioned in Quran you will be called by your mother's name. Plus birth certificate in Saudi Arabia does not even shows father's name. [if we want to look at it from culture point of view].

I think its a stupid myth created by our syed Pakistani community. How come syed from other parts of the world dont bring that issue. Its not as if syeds were only born in PAKISTAN...

Re: Just a question…want feed back…no hard feelings plz.

1 of my friends a syed

and her dad has specifically told her that she can only marry a syed

in my opinion it doesnt really matter who u marry

just as long as they r a good muslim

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

its a crock o' poopoo
there is no backing for it
lame traditions

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

Yea, Syed should marry a Syed and Brahman should marry a Brahman. Unfortunately, if you are not a Syed, it takes 250 rupees to become one.

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

what are Syeds anyways?

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

My Maternal family was Syed Sunni (Nana's Dada Dada converted from Syed Shiaa to Syed SUnni) till my mothers generation. All the sisters got married in Non syed families. No one had any issues.

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

thanx every1 for replies...lol @ fayz's reply...250 rupees to become one??? how much do u pay to get out of it???
Lussi! Syeds are from prophet's family (thats what i was told) and they say girls cant marry a non syed guy (i dont understand their logic....well there is NO logic anyways).
Surajmukhi! That family is ma fav from now on:)

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

Syeds are from prophet(PBUH)'s family.. this is another one of those culture things in pakistan that was created to restrict some bacha to do something his parents didn't want him to do.. and then the lies kept on growing.. kehtay hain na aik jhoot ko chupanay kay liye 100 jhoot bolnay partay hain..

PS: I am really really getting sick of our desi "made" up culture.. its freaking based on so much lies...

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

my phupo is married to a syed sunni, they are also waiting 4 the right syed guy to come and propose their daughter - meaning no outsiders allowed.

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

I know how it feels

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

Theres nothing islamically wrong with seyed gal marrying non seyed guy. The reason people dont want the gal to marry outside thier caste, is because the future generation carry on from the fathers cast. Hence the syedness will stop at the girl. Being in the lineage of the Prophet (saw) is a great honour and privilege for most seyeds, and to give that up, or to dismiss it like that is considered a dishonourable deed.

However, this isnt limited to seyeds, nearly every cast out there will give preference to thier own zaat first, in terms of marriage for obvious reason. However, as sadaat families, initially were very few, and in danger of being wiped out, seyed ancestors took it upon them selves to migrate far and wide, merely for the purpose of spreading the seyed populations in remotes areas, in order to keep the lineage going. It wasnt an easy struggle. Hence, heritage wise, people consider it as great disrespect to those very ancestors who fought for centuries to keep the sadaat lineage alive. However, shari wise, it is generally permitted.

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

Syeds should never marry non syeds....that is diluting the paak and saaf lahoo...no mixing allowed.

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

^^ See, theres always twisted people on this board too!

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

^^ Kettle calling pot black.... have you looked at your nick and you are calling me twisted..:)

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

My name might be twisted but atleast not my thoughts, yours are :)

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

If it wasnt for people like Kaleem you wouldnt be asking the question.. the Syed family line would be so polluted by breeding with a variety of people and by now they'd have a slushy mess of genes from everywhere.... they'd have lost their pedigree and they'd be like everyone else

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

Yeah they have halos over their heads now.

Re: Just a question...want feed back...no hard feelings plz.

thanx guys...I just wanted to know if anyone knew for sure whether or not its allowed. I personally think its written nowhere in Quran but then again i have very little knowledge on this matter so i may be wrong.
