Resolution for judges restoration to be tabled on May 12: Nawaz
Updated at: 1720 PST, Friday, May 02, 2008
LAHORE: The resolution in connection with judges’s restoration will be presented in the Parliament on May 12, said PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif here on Friday.
Addressing a meeting of Central Working Committee, Nawaz Sharif said agreement with Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari has been reached on judges reinstatement and the deposed judges will be restored on May 12 through a resolution to November 2 position.
Nawaz Sharif said he tried to convince Asif Zardari during Dubai talks that they should stay united to keep the military away from politics.
“I also made it clear that if judges are not restored the PML-N would no longer by part of the cabinet,” he added.
He proposed to PPP Co-chairman to strike down seventeenth amendment of the Constitution and to impeach the President Pervez Musharraf.
He said a 5-member committee comprising Aitezaz Ahsan, Khawaja Haris, Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim, Hafeez Pirzada and Mian Raza Rabbani will give final shape to the draft resolution for judges’ restoration.
The committee will complete its working on constitutional package in the next four to five days, Nawaz Sharif informed.
The meeting of Central Working Committee was attended by Raja Zafr-ul-Haq, Federal Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Rana Tanvir Hussain, Chaudhry Nisar Ahmed Khan and other leaders.
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
60% of voters from the biggest provience.
I think the constitutional package will trim down the wings of the judiciary, as it will be suicidal for corrupt polititians.
I say do whatever they want to do, let judiciary take so motos for the ordinary people please. Just imagine what kind of impact a so moto can make on a poor family. Justice should be available for everyone, even at this moment it means to keep an eye close on the politicians.
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
May 12th 2008, would be another black day in Pakistan's history ,when corrupt ex-CJ is going to be reinstated on peoples heads.
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
And his corruption is bigger than the service he provided to the ordinary people. Any examples of such hard work in past? Has any judge worked 14 hours a day? Has anyone slashed thousands of cases in 3 years before? Have you seen a DIG appearing in court for a case filed by a poor man?
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
^^^ Bhai he thinks judges are corrupt b/c they were holding rich and powerful accountable for their crimes...and we cant have that in our country. Pakistan was made for corrupt generals, politicians and murderous...screw the poors. They're there to serve interest of above listed groups.

Musharraf set to block judges’ return

Bruce Loudon, South Asia correspondent | May 03, 2008
PAKISTANI President Pervez Musharraf is preparing to go to court to block the reinstatement of the nation’s chief justice and other judges he sacked when he declared his state of emergency last November.
Reports said that after apparent agreement between the two leading parties in the country’s ruling coalition on how to restore the judges, Mr Musharraf’s lawyers were preparing to seek a Supreme Court stay order against any enabling resolution passed by parliament. “President Pervez Musharraf would not watch (any) such development as a silent spectator,” leading newspaper The News quoted an official as saying. “He is resolute to act firmly in order to block the return of the sacked justices.”
Mr Musharraf was reported to have summoned legal advisers after his arch-foe, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) that partners the Bhutto Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the ruling coalition, announced an agreement on the judges after a meeting in Dubai.
Mr Zardari is suspicious of maverick former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and is reluctant to see him reinstated.
In a concession to Mr Zardari, Mr Sharif is believed to have agreed to limit Mr Chaudhry to a five-year term in the top judicial post, which means that, once restored, he would have only two years left on his tenure. Without this change, he might have stayed on as chief justice until 2013.
The PPP leader wanted any restoration of the judges to form part of a constitutional reform package that would cut short Mr Chaudhry’s return to the bench by forcing him to retire prematurely and impose other restrictions on the judges.
Mr Sharif insisted all the judges should be reinstated through a resolution passed by parliament, and that this should be separate from any constitutional reform package that would take months to enact and delay restoration.
Mr Sharif declared: “The reinstatement will take place through a resolution (in parliament). There is no ambiguity, no doubt about it.” Mr Zardari made no statement, insisting that when in Dubai, where he has his family home, he never makes political statements.
A resolution is expected in the next few days that would reinstate the judges by the middle of the month.
A legal source said last night Mr Musharraf’s reported intention to go to the Supreme Court - a court made up of judges loyal to him - to seek a stay order was “extraordinary by any standards, and certain to plunge the country into a new crisis the outcome from which is unfathomable”.
Mr Zardari faced a new challenge last night from cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, who invited him to contest him in an imminent parliamentary by-election for a seat in Rawalpindi.
Mr Khan has been in the vanguard of the campaign to restore the judges, seeing it and the rule of law as central to Pakistan’s democratic future. He has been highly critical of Mr Zardari’s stance on the issue.
PPP officials indicated there was little chance of Mr Zardari taking up Mr Khan’s challenge.

US, Canada aur Dubai mein beth kar baatein bhagarna bara asaan hota hai. jub aap apnay 80 yard kay chotay se ghar per se ghundon ka qabza churane ke liye 12 saal se court ke chakkar laga rahe hoon, ya apnay begunah bhai kay qatal kay case kay liye peshiyaan bhugtaa rahe hoon aur dhamkiyon waale phone receive karrehe hoon. jub aapkay bachay kidnapping kay dar se school na jasakte hoon. tab aapko pata chalta hai ke justice kiya cheez hoti hai. ye log soch bhi nahi sakte kay ghareeb kis azaab se guzar raha hai. all they know is great president musharraf and who is opposing them. Beyond politics in ki nazar hi nahi jaati real issues per. shakhsiyat parasti ki had hoti hai.

Ghareeb kis azaab say guzar raha hai..... What did this CJ do ... apni chandi pehlay chamkao.... Nepotism at extremes... My family should benifit first then anything else... This guy is corrupt beyond bounds.
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
IRONIC, the guy who destroyed the judiciary to save his kursi is now going to the same institution in order to save his kursi again. There is no end to the cheapness of this third rate illegal president.

If he is corrupt, he should be challenged, after he is restored. If he is proved to use his powers for hs son's job or whatever then he should be dealt with justice. But look at the other people in power. If you combined the whole PMLQ and N and current PPPP, this guy alone has served poor people more than them. Will you agree or not? He is not my relative that I will defend him. I am against personalities anyway. But good deeds, that too in thousands in number can be over looked on the nepotism he practiced. If people can elect murderers and looters over and over, why can't a hard working judge be reinstated. Specially when he will be under big microscope.
Or you have some other alternatives for the poor man to get a speedy justice?
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
The same party and same leader, who had attacked the Judiciary , when they were in Power----Now want the Fired Judges restored.
Would you call this 2 Faces of PML -N
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
^ Yes this is....It is more of a Nawaz Sharif's 'intiqaam' wali politics.

March 2007 - allegations of corruption on CJ
October 2007 - all corruption charges withdrawn from politicians - NRO
This is coming from the same president. What a characterless low life person. Has been swearing on all those politicians for 7 years and yet takes U turn to save his chair. Moron.
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
When we know NS, AS, AH and Mush all have big egos and are corrupt in one way or another. Yet the people of Pakistan vote them. Why can't another corrupt, ie. CJ work, when he delivers the best to the nation among all farishtay mentioned above.
Why CJ is picked up?
And its not about personalities. Let CJ go home. But anyone who works like him, who works for public day and night is acceptable. Bottom line is that justice is the door key for true democracy and prosperity of this country. Otherwise this country will remain for elites only and anyone advocating for the current system will equally responsible.
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
You guys know very well what Nawaz Sharif did when he was the PM......And it is mind boggling to know that you can not see what he is trying to do right now.
Pakistan had its worst-ever constitutional crisis when his party PML-N had stormed the supreme court, forcing Sajjad Ali Shah to adjourn the contempt of court case against Nawaz Sharif. Hundreds of PML-N supporters and members of Muslim Students Front (MSF) had attacked the police around the courthouse and forced to stop the proceedings of the case.
He had established special courts to benefit his own allies and supporters, that later on proved to be a big humiliation on the face of justice in Pakistan.
How come Nawaz Sharif becomes so pious now and has suddenly been the only one who is striving to restore the law and justice in Pakistan??
Re: Judges to be restored on 12 May
Nawaz never learns - always setting dates and deadlines, that others later deny.
No date agreed in Dubai talks
Special Report
LAHORE - No precise date or timeframe for restoration of deposed judges was agreed in talks between PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif and PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Zardari in Dubai, TheNation learnt on Friday. Reliable sources said the two sides had in fact decided to constitute a legal committee after their realisation that a mere consultation with Khawaja Haris was not enough to deal with the constitutional issues. The sources said that certain circles within the PPP were unhappy over announcement of May 12 deadline for restoration of deposed judges by Nawaz Sharif on Friday at Lahore.
Similarly, the PPP leadership in Punjab has its reservations over distribution of cabinet portfolios and has also expressed resentment in this regard in their meetings with the PML-N leaders. They have also been asked to understand PPP’s importance in running the government in Punjab.

‘PPP not aware of May 12 deadline for restoration’
ISLAMABAD: PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar said on Friday that he was not aware of May 12 being fixed as the new deadline for the restoration of the sacked judges in a meeting between PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif in Dubai. “Several decisions taken in the meeting, such as the restoration of the judges through a resolution, the accommodation of a working judiciary and bringing a constitutional package … are true, but I am not aware of a date being fixed,” said Babar, adding that he could only comment on the matter after speaking to the co-chairman. He also expressed ignorance of President Pervez Musharraf contacting Zardari to express willingness to withdraw powers vested in him under Article 58 (2b).

Asif casts doubts on new deadline
Saturday, May 03, 2008
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Friday shied away from committing himself to May 12 deadline announced by his coalition partner Nawaz Sharif for the restoration of the deposed judges. Talking to a private TV channel, he said only the committee assigned to reach consensus on the issue could tell whether or not the resolution on judges’ restoration could be tabled in the National Assembly by May 12. When told that his lack of commitment to the fresh deadline indicated his insincerity, he hit back saying that this approach was a result of seeing things through rose coloured glasses. He claimed credit for the campaign to restore the judges citing sacrifices of PPP lawyers in this regard. However, he ignored what he told Geo News a few days earlier that his party was not mandated to restore the judges. Meanwhile, PPP Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H Naek told Geo News on Friday that efforts would be made to restore the judges by May 12. However, he said, if some problems emerged, the return of deposed judges could be delayed further.

I wonder why Ch Iftikhar's nepotism and all corrupted was set aside when whole judiciary was sacked and new PCO was issued, did the new PCO wipe off his corruption or did the new PCO mean no judges can be tried for corruption? Why did Musharraf stop crying, why did he not prosecute him afterwards?
