Have you guys heard about this ad? They pulled it after some complaints, esp since this was being aired in Ramadan. I didn’t see anything too bad about this…
I’m convinced sometimes that Pakistan is right where it is, in the stone ages, because people are so close-minded.
The question I have though, is, whether it’s fair the ad was taken off air. Firstly, the ad is not vulgar and the condom company has the right to play whatever ads they want. Secondly, the population of Pakistan NEEDS to see these sort of ads. Family planning and contraceptives are not widely available to everyone, and this ad creates awareness, nothing else.
Maybe they should play it late at night so the kiddies do not see it. Otherwise, I don’t see why the ad should NOT be aired.
Yes, Pakistani people do need to be informed. They also need to be informed about long term contraceptives. Thankfully, we do not have widespread STD epidemics (yet) in Pakistan for which condom awareness is necessary but population control has to be addressed NOW. Condoms can only do so much in that regard, since people who produce an average of 6 kids for a couple would not buy them regularly.
There were condom ads running on PTV in 90s. They delivered the message without getting into the cheap stuff this one demonstrates. Mullahs did not complain much about those. Some of Indian ads can even be called ‘tasteful’ in an artistic sense.
^That is reason enough for it to be taken off air. And Pakistani TV channels tend to repeat their commercials over n over again within a a very short time span…which is annoying. To see this ad played often…
I wonder if the vulgarity has to do with the fact that the ad is promoting intimacy for “pleasure” rather than for procreation. Isn’t that seen as wrong by the religious right?
