Jobs in Dubai

Re: Jobs in Dubai

oh and not to mention the BEST TELECOMMUNICAITON SYSTEM IN THE WORLD!

I love the service. I barely get a signal and I live in AL NAHDA. One of the so called good areas of Sharjah.

Try to open a website that lets you use IP Phone, and voila... YOU CANNOT SEE THIS SITE... IT IS AGAINST THE CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS VALUES! lol

I'm sure, we'd like to know if u r still living there? =)

You drive 2.5 hours and you reach the next block of the street only. The traffic congestion is killing.

LOL Falcon u shud leave at once! C'mon! Dubai does have it's downfalls but sense of security.. everything's fair! You have equal rights.. it isn't as bad as you put it. Had it been you wudn't have still been here.. i'm sure there's sumthing that's keeping u here!

If you're sick of malls go bowling, play snooker, insports! Swimming? sky-diving? shakespear cafe! There's plenty to do here provided u have the right company/crowd! I love this place!

Falcon, Nahda is over-crowded! And most certainly NOT one of the best places to be.. MOVE!

Re: Jobs in Dubai

I have at least two other friends whose experiences resonate with that of Falconeer's.

Without trying to generalize, I personally think that people who move from Canada or the US find it especially difficult to settle down in the Middle East - despite the tax free income (which apparently won't be much of an incentive anyways since I'm told this is changing). The lack of basic rights and being treated unequally vis-à-vis the locals as well as the white people can really get to you and in the end, the money incentive just doesn't cut it. Besides, I hear that life is extremely artificial and its you have to live against standards such as which health club you belong to, what car do you drive, what school do your kids go to etc. - All in all, for someone who's lived in the West where everyone minds their own business and you're not looked down upon by others based on your ethnicity or financial status, the transition can be daunting indeed. The friends who I'm talking about came back after a couple of years of trying to adjust.

That being said, I was brought up in UAE and I have this urge myself to try to settle there someday myself. My expectations are just a bit lesser than they used to be.

For the US guy:
My buddy got his B.A. in accounting and finance and got a good job as a billing analyst in Dubai but he says everything in dxb works on 'wasta' (contacts)

For everyone else:
You guys are freaking me out....I was thinking about moving here, but reading about traffic and materialism is making me hesitant! Especially hate the first

hahaha..ROFL.You draw such a horrendous picture of the UAE..''Khabeestimes'' haha..I wonder what's keeping you stuck onto the GODFORSAKEN place? It's not as bad as you put it.

Re: Jobs in Dubai

Holly Terror exactly! And Falconeer when i said best of both world's means that there is a slight moderate Islamic mahol means we get holidays and everything and it is a bit secure plus majority of people wear abayas and stuff however at the same time it is modern too and all major shopping and amneties and luxuries are available here. Also the food is Halal and i do not need to have to worry about whether gelatin is vegetable source or animal source or whether i should eat something or not. It definitely is not that bad as you put it.

And dear writing in capitals in not going to make a big difference. I am very Pro Dubai and UAE. It is my home, and obviously one protects their home from prey's eyes.

And another thing Falconeer dear, you are living in Nahda which is not even an area of Dubai and obviously it is right on the Dubai-Sharjah road and it will be crowded and there will be traffic all the time. Even i know how much traffic is there. If you are talking about what to do then there are plenty of things to do in Dubai. Why do not you call me sometimes and i will give you suggestions. It just depends on how well a person knows a place and how well he/she is interconnected with people. I can never be bored in Dubai.

If you are going to lecture about traffic to me then i suggest do not even start. I have seen traffic in Pakistan, Oman, Canada, USA, UK and trust me Dubai traffic is not all that bad. Plus the Dubai Metro is in the trial run phase and soon it will be up and running for the normal public and i suggest you use that for transportation purposes. Save money and headache. Oh yeah there is a seperate ladies compartment, which other city did you see that in?:)

There's a sense of security here, I can roam about at any given time without a worry! I don't pay huge sum of taxes! I can take my "gora" friends out to bars/clubs and my "desi" friends to Pakistan Day events! I get to attend all arab/desi/gora concerts!

Just because of one area that doesn't get signals u can't term Dubai as a "poop-hole" had it been that bad.. u wudn't have stayed here a split-second! People are moving here, buying property, investing huge sums, shifting their families here.. In the west majority of the family members have to work to make ends meet and then they hardly have time to enjoy the money!

Each to his own, I love Dubai!

p.s, Pak is a 2 hour flight it's so close-by I can come n go easily!

Re: Jobs in Dubai

Exactly!!! Well said, it is each person's personal preference and there are many people who absolutely love Dubai. Many pakistanis who move from the west here are living in a lifestyle they could have never afforded over there. They are enjoying Dubai, we are enjoying Dubai. I love Dubai too!!!!!!! ...

And so true about the proximity to Pakistan. Australia is 14 something hour flight:( ...

Re: Jobs in Dubai

Gina Nahda is not in Dubai!!!! He said he lives in Nahda and there he does not get signal so that is Sharjah emirate's problem. Etisalat and DU have broad coverage in Dubai however i have no idea about Sharjah!

Well im based in Sharjah, i've never had a network problem.. LOL

Re: Jobs in Dubai

Oh alright... i have no idea as i do not really visit Sharjah that much. I go to RAK and Dubai alot..

I've read the comments that have been posted in this thread so far and I feel that in terms of whether Dubai is a good place to live or not there is a bit too much black and white going on here.

Dubai is not heaven on earth, although some people want to make you believe it is. But on the other hand it's also not a bad place to live in for a while, if you land a job that pays well enough. That can be a bit tricky, if you don't have a western education.

Discrimination is an issue here. Bureaucracy and customer service is way behind western standards. Traffic is horrible and 2 or 4 metro lines for a city of that size won't make a real difference unless there is a proper public transport network around it. Which is still several years away.

But if you compare it with the situation 10 years ago, Dubai has made a remarkable leap forward. The amount of greenery in Dubai is surprisingly high for a city in the desert. There are plenty of things to do and to enjoy. Work opportunities outside the Petroleum industry are certainly there if you have the right skills. And the education system is also a lot better than it used to be.

All in all, I'm glad that I made the decision to move to Dubai 2 years ago, but I'm also glad that I have to option of going back to Europe at some point in time, because despite Dubai being an interesting city, it's not a place where I would want to retire.

My 2 cents.

Re: Jobs in Dubai

^^ so wot other countries u would recommend for a new couple to get settled in???

Re: Jobs in Dubai

^^ iam living in pakistan :smack: thts why am asking i like dubai cuz its close to Pakistan the culture isnt tht diffrent too

Most def come down to Dubai and see if u like it =) If u're married then this place is fab! I feel for the poor bachelors who don't get home-cooked food, work 24/7 usually they're the one's that don't really like Dubai.
