A friend of mine got an offer for a air hostess job. She is pakistani and live in UK. Her family is having a issue about the dress code she will wear during her job. Since she has to wear skirt as a part of her job here parents thinks its inappropriate, but she thinks that its part of the professional she has choosen. I would like to have opinions from here especially from girls that what would you do? Do you wear skirt as a part of your job and what will be the reaction of your parents?
I am sure all airlines have a flexible dress code. i.e there are options of skirts, dresses and trousers. I cant imagine an airline recruting a muslim woman and then telling her she must wear a skirt else she will lose her job! By wearing a trouser, it will not affect her performance on the job. If her parents have accepted her choice of profession then she should meet them half way by requesting to her employers that she wears trousers for religious reasons, if that will make her parents more comfortable.
didnt she know the dress code of Airline and that her parents/family will be against it?
I am not sure why we leave important things on "jub waqat ayee ga tu daikh leen gai" These are the things that should be cleared up-front before applying for job so we dont end up in situation like this.
secondly, I expect better reasoning from any girl whose parents are conservative, better than "its part of the professional she has choosen".
It all depends on Her really to what she thinks, by waering a skirt will it affect her life, family life and esp her Islamic Teaching. Then Decide is the job right for her.. I mean there are other jobs that a woman can do and be modest would not have to even worry about what relatives may say knowing the familys views on such things.
If her parents are conservative then why did she choose this profession ? Just to give them heartache ? To test their patience ? She is being rebellious ? She has no respect for her parent's values ?
If the answer to all these questions is yes then she should go ahead and do whatever she likes.
Just found this so seems like the airlines might be ok with her covering up a bit more (bit unfair that the Christian woman wasn’t allowed to wear her cross):
‘British Airways permits Muslims to wear a headscarf, Sikhs to wear a turban and other faiths religious apparel.’
I have seen many female attendants wearing trousers as well as skirts. I don't think any airline would be this strict as to implement a skirt only dress code for women. If however they do, then she sould do the right thing and switch to an airline that are more flexible, or perhaps a career change if possible. These things should really have been looked into earlier.
she can get paid better doing administrative work behind a desk then being an air hostess lol at her choosing this as a profession.
she's giving her parents a load of bs but whatever like the others said opaque tights should do the trick, but most airlines do accommodate everyoen's religious background.
I just find it odd that when it comes to relationships (premarital, physical OR not; dating etc) we mostly don't judge all the people who post here and calmly give advice but when it comes to skirts we get so worked up.
I second the opaque tights or trousers option if this is what she really wants to pursue in life.

It's prob more to do with the lifestyle than the money imo..

Maybe she didn't do it for the money? Maybe this is something she has always wanted to do? Besides if you work for an international airline your statement is incorrect.
On topic, I'm pretty sure most airlines allow you to wear trousers instead of a skirt.

Umm....this is not part of the "profession" she has chosen. This is part of the specific COMPANY she has chosen. I'm not an expert but I'm sure UK has more than 1 airline.
Has your friend spoken to HR at the particular airline to see if they will allow her to wear pants?
Why can't she look for a job with a different airline that will allow her to wear pants? This can't be the only airline that's hiring in the entire UK....
