I haven’t read all the posts so if this is already covered I will feel horribly embarrassed later :D
In Zameen Kay Badal, safi ruined it by having fridi demonstrate the sing/sung art, that was imran's territory. As imran's fan i found that to be a desperate attempt to keep fridi above imran.
Ruswa bhai, I remember Reema too. The dreamy villainess ... #3 to T3B. That was a good one!
Wise one, you did not sound too wise! Why would Ibn-e-Safi try "desparately" to prove the superiority of one character over another unless he already believed so? Obviously, he himslef thought of Faridi as superior to Imran. In fact, the character of Faridi was taken to such heights that Ibn-e-Safi himslef mentioned in one of the pesh-rus that he was becoming more and more difficult to handle and required a lot of attention. Anyways, the superiority of Faridi is obvious for many reasons:
(1) Jasoosi Dunya started at least a couple of years before Imran.
(2) Faridi is older and more experienced than Imran.
(3) Faridi is more resourceful.
... and so on.
That’s exactly what I am saying safi fan considered Fridi to be his best detective. However that wasn’t the case. Age isn’t a guarantee of perfection in job. First of all Imran worked on a higher level, his cases were far more gripping, second as I said he was way to quick. Fridi mostly was after one criminal where as imran was usually after an entire organization and on top of that he was linked to foreign affairs. Even the villains in Imran series are far more appealing. Didn’t you find it peculiar that in Zameen kay badal all of a sudden Fridi demonstrates an art he has never before or after practised? I think that was a flaw and thus a desperate attempt. I find Imran's character far more real and entertaining.
Dear Wise one,if you read your arguement slowly you would yourself find that it is unfortunately not just flawed but a contradictory one in itself.what you are saying is that faridi was old and although age brings more experience yet dosent gaunatee perfection...well there CANNOT BE 100% perfection in this world.IT IS IMMINENTLY FLAWED AND SO IS THI MORTAL HUMAN RACE!!! even then what age brings is EXPERIENCE ..which you still lack when youare young because of the exponential TIME that you have spent so far.in Zameen kay badal...what faridi demonstrated was that although age wise one can expect to be more supple and resilient YET he Had mastered the art because he would've had found it intriguing.then one fundamental mistake you are making is comparing the two side by side....YOU CANNOT DO THAT...the two series werent set in a parallel... they were seperate with their seperate storylines.....but OCCASSIONALLY these storylines MET because occasionally in life thngs have a way to cross paths ...by chance ..by luck or by design..call it whatever..but thats rare. and thats why there werent regular KHAS NUMBERS with both characters worlds colliding .... zameen kay badal was sorry IS an EPIC NOVEL of gargantuan proportions. If i recall it ( which i really am unable to as the last i read it was 15 years ago) it had the most amazing SCI FI based storyline and wow ... i really have to read everything again because otherwise its a blank....damn... another 6 months before i could visit ....i think i might stop viiting this forum and keep me from frustration...
botom line to ALL ....ISRAR SAHIB have been dead .. and unfortunately he was the ONLY one who couldve had definitely resolved this dispute WHICH WILL REMAIN FOREVER AS LONG AS THERE ARE LOVERS OF JASOOSI DUNIYA OR IMRAN SERIES !!
so we can all digress and analyze for all we can.. yet not resolve this dispute .but we SHOULD certainly have a GOOD time in doing so .
^^ shaktoo off topic i know but is your nick inspired by indian movies? or indian sumthing?
As for the post i fail to see how i am being contradictory. When writer gets biased with his characters its a flaw in writing. If the memory serves right safi wasn’t particularly happy with the “epic” himself and refused to bring the both characters together in any other novel. I think he was unable to do the justice to both of them in same plot. Fair enough they are both powerful characters.
HAH HAH LOL NOPES, my nick isi nspired by a close friends nick .and its a long and personal story but its got nothing to do with indian movies or sumpthing . again as you point out and i said ...keeping the two seperate is generally a good idea ..... and as further pointed out by The Offspring...."U gotta Keep 'em seperated..".the whole novel wouldve been a real headche to marhoom and keeping in mind the difficulties he wouldve had .. pulling it off was hugely successful.
Thats Y I come almost Daily to These Threads… coz.. buhut sari YaadaiN thats connected to those Novels yaad ajati haiN and.. Dil QUdsya Bagh Qudsya Bagh ho jata hay

Gold bro, those were some days ... aaaah! I used to hide my books too. Under blankets, with school books, in my closet, under my belt and pull my stomach in, boy O boy ! My mom actually gave away my books twice, lekin meray hauslay pust nahin huay. At last she realized I was cureless.
Wo bhi kia din thay jab aatish jawan tha! Bhari dopahar main, ooper chhat pe ja ke novels parhna aur phir waheen behoshi ki neend so jaana.
The song that comes to my mind is this:
Meray bachpan ke din, kitnay achay thay din
Aaj baithay bithayay kyun yaad aa gaya
Meray bichhdon ko mujh se mila de koi
Mera bachpan mujhay dhoondh la de koi

otherwise try going out of business old libraries... i know of a certain HILAL LIBRARY in NURSERY PECHS and I am pretty certain that if thats there i can still buy some old ancient copies of ibne safi novels...yu'll find it man n so will i
brother Shaktoo, aap to parosi niklay !!! I used to rent from HILAL Library in nursery PECHS. The grumpy old librarian with all grey hair and moustache is still around. Also, the book stall at the corner used to keep some good books. I used to buy "Naye Ufq" and "Naya Rukh" from the book stall. Also, mahnaama "Aankh Macholi", "Taleem-o-tarbiat", waghera !!!
In Karachi, Ibn-e-Safi books are available at a whole-sale book seller on Burns Road. He is on the third floor of an old building and has most of Ibn-e-Safi books plus tons of other writers' books. That is my favorite book shop.
WELL HELLO ME HARDY SAFI FAN !!!!
what a small world indeed. I grew up going to that and the other small booth in nursery.you know that grumpy ol librarian is indeed a good friend .. i was sucha loyal customer there that i had access to inside the counter used to sit there and have tea and chit chat .. sadly the name is kinda mssing from me memory was it karim bhai ??and the other guy with the dodgy glasses and blackish moustache with a small stall next to the electrician shop on the other side mostly english comics and novels... wow... my mom took me there the first time because i kept bugging her to buy me story books .....started with archie comics and famous five.....and look at me now....and touching on the children monthlies... i was a regular writer for AANKH MICHOLI, TOT BATOT, SAATHI. NAUNEHAL untill i left for my career.i sill go to the nursery market everytime i go there and try and meet him also do you remeber the first nursery round about market.. where they had the chemist shop on one corner and opposite was the ?ice cream shop.. with a cone machine...used to go there with dad on walks and he bought us ice cream cone always ... MAN OH MAN.. what a coincidence.... hmmmm... parosi indeed... i wonder do i know you ? or you know me as well ???to be continued.......
Well, I won't be surprised if we did know each other. I remember standing in line at Habib Bank to pay the electricity bill. Every one would show up on the last day and then people would try to come up with all sorts of excuses to pay sooner than others. It is still kinda like that. I vaguely remember the book shop for comics and stuff. But I remember the book stall on the corner. I remember that ice cream shop ... last time I went to Pakistan I took my 4 years old there and got him some of that tattoo wrapper chewing gum and other junk food. Boy O boy, memories ... sweet sweet memories. Also, remember the juice stall on the other side of the bank. Boy! A girl asked me to meet her at that "Gannay ke Juice ki Dukaan". And I refused because it seemed like a very unromantic place for dating.
Waah saheb : MERA MIZAAJ LARAKPAN SAY AASHIQAANA THAA.
gannay ka RAS hota hai juice nahee ( it looks very non desi to say gannay ka juice)
aap k iss ashiqana waqea say yaad aaya aik joRi ANWAR-RASHEEDA ki bhi to huwa karti thee !!
Aray bhai, mizaaj bilkul aashiqana nahin tha. Is story ka anjaam intihayee nakaam, dard-bhara, aur qabil-e-ibrat hai.
Anwar aur Rasheeda ke kirdaar bhi bohat shandaar hain. Ibn-e-Safi ne un ka alag silsila shuru karna chaha tha lekin baad main dono ko Faridi aur Hameed ke saath zam kar diya. I like the characterization of Anwar.
dear safi fan, if you can understand DMC then i think we will defifnitely know each other !!
Gannay kay " ras " ki dukaan, National+ Habib bank, masjid,Book shop has changed to a stationery shop i think karachi has certainly changed.i cannot doscuss characters as i cannot recall them completely...well only till december.... then i WILL HAVE ME HANDS ON DEM BOOK>>>AAARRRRRR
