Even I don't think gold and girls dress are dowry. These are her personal use items.
That means we Sindhi and as hilighted by Microbian, Biharis are dowry free cultures, as they normally don't give anything else other than these items.

I know gold for bride’s use is not considered as dowry.I am talking about that gold given to inlaws is definitely dowry no?

Here on Paklinks, I read few threads and found out that some families give gold items and expensive brand watches to in laws… dowry hi samjhi jaye gi…

Prople in karachi so demanding these days...they dont even think before demanding anything...like i know certain people how they asked for furniture and everything...astaghfirullah when people say farmika furniture is not good..please bring wood furniture this what is the curse of dowry...people later on demanding their desires...beside furniture people here put their choices on bridal dress (which is from bride family, normally urdu speaking people give bride both days dress(wedding& valima) means from groom's family. Now come to bridal jory she brings for her own use...alas i ve seen people they demand it how they has to be...astaghfirullah...sometime i feel like those people actually want these materialistic they have no concern with bride except her looks that has to be of their own desire...astaghfirullah..i only pray may Allah subhan wa taAllah protect us from evil ameen may Allah guide us and all ameen..

I think its not limited to one city. Consumerism and commercialism have shown its impacts every where. The materialistic attitude is increasing day by day and with every coming generation, people are becoming more and more demanding.

Bridal Joray(Wedding, Walima) are big thing in girl’s life… Har koi shadi kay din acha hi dikhna chahta hia.. isko materialistic demand nahi kah saktay…

iski koi limit nahi hia... har koi lac lac tak nahi jata.... mager log acha hi karna chahty hian.... aur log price ko bhi barha charha kay batatay hian.. kay itnay ka liya hia. utnay ka liya ... etc etc....
