Plenty of people that I know who didn’t give their daughters jahaiz. No severe consequences.
The worse that will happen is that the rishta will end. Fine, who wants to marry their daughter to greedy people.

I am aware in some cases it is easy to speak and things can become ugly, things aren’t always that black and white. But in general, it is all up to you how you react to something. Things aren’t always as difficult as we make them.

I am married to the most beautiful, educated classy lady who was physically assaulted and threatened because her widowed mother was not able to fulfill the demands for more money. Her brother and bhabi had usurped all the wealth and left them with nothing. One offs don’t matter in a vast majority of cases the dowry matters.
