When you live in a society and do not follow social norms there can be very severe consequences, I am sure you are aware of that.

Plenty of people that I know who didn’t give their daughters jahaiz. No severe consequences.
The worse that will happen is that the rishta will end. Fine, who wants to marry their daughter to greedy people.

I am aware in some cases it is easy to speak and things can become ugly, things aren’t always that black and white. But in general, it is all up to you how you react to something. Things aren’t always as difficult as we make them.
