I got an iPod, a lovely gift, a while back. It works fine … however, iTunes for some reason is giving me major problems.
I had iTunes and it was working fine. I went to www.apple.com and saw that they had a new version of iTunes that could be downloaded, so I decided to upgrade what I had.
For some reason, it is not working and my iTunes won’t open at all. After saying that it has successfully installed on my computer, I get this error message every time I try and open iTunes. It says:
Quicktime Failed to Initialize - Error #-2093
Please make sure Quick Time is properly installed in this computer.
Quick Time is included in the new version of iTunes that I’m trying to load, so I don’t understand how after it says that “iTunes has successfully installed on to my computer with Quick Time”, why isn’t working?
I have uninstalled everything and tried repeatedly to install it again but it just won’t work. I keep getting the same error message.
urgh, I just searched online and am seeing that so many people are having this same problem with the new verison of iTunes. The problem is with this new version which does not completely install/uninstall itself and won’t allow me to go back to the older version that I had. How do I restore, how, how?
Start>>Help>> You will see a splash screen and you will find a link to restore system.
Sorry I was running Linux when I replied the first time and didn't have time to double check what I typed.
It won't work for me Sadiyah. I'm not even sure what version I was using before but 5.1.0.4 has completely messed up my computer ... and apparently, not only me. I'm reading the forums on the Apple website and many people are having difficulties.
Well, I tried everything, system restore, uninstall ... nothing is working. My iTunes is finished. It won't uninstall. There is some glitch in the system (not my computer since it is happening to others too). :( :( :( :( :(
I have spent 3 hours tonight and 3 hours last night trying to fix this and it won't.
MQ I am guessing that you must remember when you upgraded the software. Try this but not when you're logged in but in safe mode, also make sure you have 10% (of your HDD size) free space ...
To run System Restore in safe mode
Access System Restore through Help and Support.
Follow the instructions on your screen.
Notes
To access the System Restore Wizard, click Start, and then click Help and Support. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Using System Restore to undo changes, and then click Run the System Restore Wizard.
While the computer is in safe mode, System Restore does not create any restore points. Therefore, you cannot undo a restoration that you performed when the computer was in safe mode.
You can use System Restore to restore your computer to any restore point while in safe mode. If you cannot start the computer in standard mode, you can use System Restore to restore to a time when you could start the computer without errors.
To restore to a time when your computer started without errors, select a restore point as close to the time you remember it last started without errors.
If System Restore is suspended because of insufficient disk space, you cannot enable it by making more disk space available while in safe mode. You must restart the computer in standard mode and make more disk space available.
Mehnaz: I had same issues a while back with my ipod. All, i did was call the customer service n umber and they guided me over the phone and the problem was solved in 10 minutes. Good Luck. I hope you have warranty on it:)
Mahru, the problem is not with the iPod, it is with the iTunes software, this new version that they have just released here: iTunes - Apple
I had version 4.9 working fine and I was prompted to upgrade it and so I did, which is when all my problems began. I’m not the only one who is having difficulties with this new version. If you look on Apple’s discussion forums, tonnes of other people are having major issues with this new version.
Anyway, I did everything they (the Apple people) have suggested on their website and I got the same message error again when I select iTunes after it says it has “successfully installed”:
QuickTime Failed to Initialize Error #-2093
Make Sure QuickTime is Properly Installed on this Computer
Then, I was reading through some threads on the Apple forum from a few days ago and somebody else had the same QuickTime Error #-2093 that I keep getting. He downloaded QuickTime Standalone after installing iTunes. I tried that. This is the error message I am now getting WHILE IN THE MIDDLE of installing QuickTime.
It says:
QuickTime Error
Error 1402. Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTime.qt\DefaultIcon. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
