But failing to understand why people would do them is to fail to be able to prevent them in future. America has been making this mistake and I hope that the UK will not.

Muslims or anyone for that matter, are at the liberty of condemning or condoning whatever they want...If you wish to condemn, then do so...There is no 'Muslims must'...But, Muslims MUST also pray 5 times a day...How many do it?
And the atrocity in Iraq happened first...Why not start by condemning that? Or is it that by condemning you'll get a better image?

LI, if you get off your high horse and see the situation you will see that no one is trying to justify the killings, they are trying to make the people (you included) see the reasoning behind this attack. You cannot just cut yourself off from reality and expect to solve a problem. Approaching these situations like a cowboy ala G.W. only gets your country's economy devastated and populace agitated. You must find the cause and eliminate the cause, there is no way around it.
For those of youwho still believe the mantra that "they attack us because they are jealous of our freedom, our way of life and values" should consider that peopel who are running these so called terrorist organizations (OBL) are rich. OBL had enough money that he could not spend it all in his lifetime if he wanted to. He could have adiopted "ameican way of life" (see saudia's private dance/night life), but he did not. It has nothing to do with these phony excuses, it has to do with the wrongdoings of these governments in the name of their people and than feeding them (their own people) crap like they hate our freedom and values. Someone should ask Blair and Bush so why did you plan for the Iraq war first and than looked for the reasons? How many Iraqi civilains have died because of the so called "liberation" effort and insurgents actions thereof....

But what harm did those commuters killed this morning do?
Where in Islam is the death of one innocent person avenged by the targetted death of another?
If, say, a large explosion against a military target or political leader led to innocent deaths, that might be justifiable.
But these attacks were aimed at people against whom no proof can be produced they commited acts deserving death.
