My initial reason for starting this topic was - that Desi parents tend to differentiate between boys and girls, so much so they tend to make the boys pampered and lazy, and totally unfit for life in Western countries.

The girls are always told to do the house work - perhaps its ‘tough love’ preparing them for a married life.

My brothers were never pampered. If anyone was pampered, it was me. But in general, at least in the desi community here, I haven’t noticed too much favoring of one gender over the other.
