I am sure this will be moved.

However, I am one of the lucky ones MashaAllah to be blessed with a very helping husband. Who does the dishes and cleans the house, if I am not able to do so, without making any faces.
It all depends upon the mother’s training.
and I am trying to teach my son to follow that line as well.

Well it all depends upon the circumstances, men shud help women if they need. I used to help my mom a lot when i was young, so did my brothers, but now that i am married i do not do any household chores, nothing at all. Coz my wife has a full time maid, is a house wife and has all those automatic machines, dishwashers, WM etc. things making life lot easy for women of this age,.

i dont have a problem with any of the above mentioned...in fact i take out the trash most of the time. i dont even have that many clothes :(

i think if the girl is not working then it is her job to take care of the house. if they are both working then they both need to do work around the house.

Cooking, cleaning and doing the dishes. What's the big deal anyway, I've been doing it throughout my single life as well as working and going to school. Really, our desi girls need to toughen up.

My initial reason for starting this topic was - that Desi parents tend to differentiate between boys and girls, so much so they tend to make the boys pampered and lazy, and totally unfit for life in Western countries.

The girls are always told to do the house work - perhaps its 'tough love' preparing them for a married life.

exactly, when parents force their children to study hard at school or to go throgch other hard work in housechores, it's usually not to make them suffer, but to toughen them for the future, so that their kids have more chance to be successfull happy adults later in life

My brothers were never pampered. If anyone was pampered, it was me. But in general, at least in the desi community here, I haven’t noticed too much favoring of one gender over the other.

malhot, Desi guys are not pampared or indolent. American people live on fast food from Day 1. They don't know how to cook, men and women combined. Cooking is a habbit or something that you are interested in. So, I really don't understand the ground of your discussion.

Altough I agree, one should atleast clean his/her dishes.

In terms of marriage, I think if one spouse stays home and doesn't work at all, they should be in charge of the household duties. If they both work then both need to split the household duties. It's only a problem that the wife works AND is expected to be the perfect housewife..
