Can someone else do istikhara on your behalf… and then you see the dream or sign or whatever? And what is the proper way of doing Istikhara? I knew the prayer but forgot it now…
Re: Istikhara
i dont think u can do ur own istikhara..someone else has to do it for u..
but only think i am going to add here is..dont do istikhara unless ofcourse ur 100% confused abt making a decision..
i hate it when people do istikhara..and lets say the result is something tht they dont like/want and then they just ignore it..and go with their own decision..

Where'd you get that from? As far as I know and read from ahadith, Prophet did his own istekhara and did not ask Sahabas and vice versa. You have to do your own. I don't know why people run to others from Istekhara.
Istekhara can be done on different occasions, and not just marriage. The decision is left to person doing the istekhara. It is not necessary that you HAVE to follow whatever you see in a dream after doing istekhara. If after doing istekhara, you are inclined towards whatever you did istekhara for, then you can go on with it and vice versa.
Re: Istikhara

Re: Istikhara
i agree with HHL on the fact that people often think someone else has to do it. Infact, that's a misconception, Istikhara is a form of seeking guidance for any specific task that you're about to take on. So it's only best that you, yourself do it, that way you can decide for yourself. Although, pious people do it for others. It's not a must. It's more of a superstition that someone else has to do it.
Just like you wouldn't ask anyone else to ask Allah for Guidance for you, you shouldn't ask others to seek the favorable decision that involves your action(s). It's better if you do it yourself. Repeat it if you're not content or unsure, but at the end decision is always yours ofcourse, so are the consequences of the decision, whether your own or based on others 'views'.
Re: Istikhara
^ I know even my mother says that since we know our problems better and we have the feelings as well we should do it ourselves others might not understand etc...but what to do if you are in my shoes i.e. forget a line or a word whenever you are doing it and end up with no answer :S

hmmm, that is kinda sad. Waise you know, in most cities, you can manage to grab hold of an alim who can be asked such questions... masla tab hota hai when you know them! and hence cant really ask personal questions... besides, how many times can you possibly bug a person with all our questions asyway right?!?
oh, and JAK for the site... inshallah I will try it.
Re: Istikhara
I would rather talk to a woman - Talking to a male alim face to face would be really very awkward for me. And the biggest problem is that the nearest Majlis to my house is like 15-20 mins away (drive) and yes please do check out the site - it has all sorts of issues...but i didnt like one answer in which the guy said not to listen to Farhat Hashmi and Zakir Naik :S
Re: Istikhara
oh i know what u mean… i usually get my Mum to ask the Alim’s wife, and she transfers the question ![]()
oh man, you have no idea how many ppl dont like Farhat Hashmi in and outside pakistan
and when asked as to exactly what it is she says that is against the quran and sunnah, they get dumb-struck and have no answer, or they come up with Maulana xyz said so… I mean come on! why cant ppl judge for themselves.
Once, I had a discussion with someone and he said hamare “buzurg” tells us to not listen to her… and i asked him ke kyouN… he said there were 3 reasons, he cud only remember 2 and even these two had no implication on her (on of the accusations were completely false, and the other was a matter on which the scholars differed!!!)
I think the reason why some ppl will tell u to not listen to her is bcoz she doesn’t pertain to any particular School of thought… I mean she mentions all of them here and there, but she won’t like say that here is the hanafi method of prayer, follow it! she presents all ahadith and i guess thats what doesn’t sit well with the ppl of pakistan!
