Why not? The US government essentially refused to condemn Israel, preferring instead to issue some lukewarm platitudes about how the loss of life was regrettable.
That’s a bit of an oversimplification. India didn’t even officially recognize Israel untill the early 1990’s. For decades before then, while it was still essentially allied with the USSR, India attempted to ingratiate itself with the Arab world. This impacted its relations with Israel accordingly. I agree, of late, its relationship with Israel has gotten warmer, but India still needs to walk a fine line in order to maintain its friendly relations with trading partners in the Middle East.
That said, I think right wing Indians (the likes of which we often see here) do identify with Israel (and Serbia, and practically any other group in conflict with a Muslim population), as that is simply the nature of their mindset.
