Islamophobia

One of our family friends had a cigarette flung on her while waiting outside for a ride this week - and this is an elderly women. With all of the other shameful and hateful acts being committed on Muslims, I am just wondering how do we counter react? Muslims seem to have it doubly scary where on one hand were fearful with the rest of the world about attacks being carried out anytime and on the other being held responsible in the eyes of the public for something we have no part in. How can we counter Islamophobia in the west? Are we doing enough or should we be doing more to counter this hateful rhetoric in a productive way? What do those solutions/actions look like? There was a Washington vigil that was held this evening for the victims in the Paris attacks but it recieved no coverage. What else can we do? Like many I am just trying to make sense of everything happening as a result of what happened in Paris and just want to know how other people here feel.

Sorry if this is a repeat thread, please merge if so..

Re: Islamophobia

I dont know how one can confront this, it seems as if the West is moving towards an internal implosion if they do not control themselves.

No one is trying to figure out the reasons why all the Muslim world is on fire, and what role west has played in it.

Re: Islamophobia

There are a lot of these islamophobia-related incidents in Canada.
Muslim women being harrassed and told to "go back to your country"......

while the police and Govt stays silent and do nothing......

Re: Islamophobia

That's the thing. Why did the media not cover the candle light vigil? These things SHOULD get covered, because this is what they're using against us. That we are silent.

Re: Islamophobia

Not much you can do other then keep a low profile. People are scared and angry... Be glad its not worse. Minorities and even some Muslims get it worse in Muslim countries. Cant really complain when Muslim countries themselves treat people like trash.

Re: Islamophobia

Exactly. If tables were turned, how many of these same muslims would be in their homeland countries harassing or killing minorities?

Re: Islamophobia

American president Obama will soon complete his 8 years of presidency. This speaks volume about the anti racist mindset of Americans. I found American ppl to be really courtious to the people of color.
However, the state should monitor the mosques and islamic centers for any unusual activities.

Re: Islamophobia

The Mosques in the US aren't politicized. You wont find any imams making incendiary speeches there. I have never come across any sort of suspicious activity in US mosques. The problem isnt the mosques, its the internet. Its the racism and open bigotry which creates the extremist mindset. When a young Muslim is trying to find his or her place in society, seeing all these attacks on Muslims and Islam, he or she begins to identify more with Islam and Muslims out of insecurity. That feeling of insecurity can easily be exploited by the likes of DAESH... There are suspicious characters among western Muslims, but the state is aware of those people. They know who they are. They dont need to monitor the Mosques, they need to monitor those people who are known to espouse extremist ideology.

Re: Islamophobia

It is good to know she was not hurt! however all of us do hurt and feel the disgust when any one singles us out because of our different Faith, and we feel the disgrace when innocent bystanders are attacked by so called Muslims!

May Allah guide us all and give us patience through these very hard times!

Re: Islamophobia

Media does not cover good news! their soul purpose is to give us all the Bad News! lots of big money advertisement backs bad news!

in other words there is no profit in good news!

Re: Islamophobia

Med911 I wrote about monitring the mosques, because I have heard of mosques sending people for Dawa train8ng for 4-5 years. The mosques provide financial support to their families and children. I have no idea where the money flow is coming from.

Re: Islamophobia

Really? Have you not seen "American" people mocking Obama all the time? Have you not seen Americans not believing he is/not Muslim? The inner-hate still lives on against blacks and it comes out in different ways.

And I have heard American government sends people to destroy different countries for many years, pays them and takes care of their families.

Re: Islamophobia

I dont know whether this Dawa training is potentially dangerous or not... I doubt that even if they are sending their kids for this training, that that is significant enough of an issue to warrant monitoring of Mosques.

There are far more immediate dangers in the US, such as the crazy right wing groups, racists with guns etc. But the US ignores such immediate dangers and focuses its money and energy on an exaggerated threats from Muslim extremists.

Re: Islamophobia

Wahabies are not an exaggerated threat. They are a real threat to the Muslim world and the rest of the world in the bigger picture. They have completely destroyed the economy of pakistan. They have bombed and killed thousands of people. They have attacked schools, funerals, mosques, milad processions, shia doctors and other persons at influential positions. They have killed chinese social workers, team members of polio vaccine social workers, they have dropped bombs in hindu temples and churches in Pakistan. They have attacked agha khanis. And the list goes on.
Muslims in US can perform their prayers more safely than in Pakistan.

Re: Islamophobia

"I heard" , dawa training = wahabism.... aur kuch?

Re: Islamophobia

.

Re: Islamophobia

Captain sahab, dawa is a purely deobandi concept. If barelvis go for dawa trainings, i dont mind because barelvis have proved to be harmless people.

Monitoring the mosques is necessary before we have too many lal masjids popping up on every street.

Besides, I trust my hearing instints, they are pretty logical.

Re: Islamophobia

That is separate topic. BTW... no dawa jamaat goes with any outside support i.e. only families support their travelers. No masjid can afford to send someone for training for 4-5 years, your instincts failed here.

wait... so one masjid creates problem in Pakistan, US needs to start monitoring masajid... great logic.

as logical as one's perception/pre-conceived-notions.

Re: Islamophobia

Solution is simple
Go back to your respective Muslim countries, strengthen them economically and militarily with all the money and skills you have got. No one will dare to harass you in any way.

Re: Islamophobia

No not that simple. Easier said then done. There are existing political structures in these countries that would make it nearly impossible for anyone who isnt from within the ruling class to make a dent. Vested interests make it nearly impossible for anyone to have an impact on existing status quo.
