PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AFP) - Authorities in a Pakistani province ruled by Islamists torched thousands of confiscated condom posters, video cassettes and computer disks in a campaign against vulgarity, officials said.Watched by dozens of people chanting “Allah-o-Akbar” (God is great), Northwest Frontier province government officials Saturday destroyed what they desribed as "material morally corrupting the people through obscene and sexually provocative pictures."The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Islamic alliance which swept the polls in the province in October 2002 elections has carried out similar crackdowns on “immoral” material in the deeply conservative region.
Since coming to power the MMA has banned music in public transport and barred pictures of women on commercial billboards in the province which borders Afghanistan.Provincial Minister for Religious Affairs Maulana Amanullah Haqqani set the material on fire on the outskirts of the provincial capital Peshawar.The material was confiscated from shops in Peshawar’s famous Bara Market.Early this year the MMA passed a bill in the local parliament making Islamic Sharia the supreme law.President Pervez Musharraf has accused the Islamists of defying the people and nation’s founders by trying to impose a Taliban-style of Islam, giving Pakistan a negative fundamentalist image when it needed to be progressive and modern.

I think it's a great move, Pukhtoons are cool, their dedication to Islam and Pakhto (which is basically the same values as Islam) makes any fairminded and honourable person respect them and their way of life, more power to them, God bless them.
We need to let go of our Indian culture and learn from them a bit.

If a person is unmarried, there are no pubs or clubs to go to, No chance of meeting any bird, the only time you can get close to a girl, is weekends while you are partying. Then you are bound to go for such options.
Religion is good, but it should not cap your basic instincts, cause if you run from the most fundamental things that define you as a human, you end up frustrated and angry. It is this despair and aggravation that leads to extremism and in turn terrorism.
Let your imagination run free, explore and discover new things rather than thinking how to curb your most elemental urges because the religion says so.

For the topic and some replies i woud say Lahole wa la Quwwa.
But Ranjhan, your post is not correct. In fact Pakhto culture is just a culture and it has nothing to do with Islam. In fact many things in this culture are totally against Islam. Many pashtoons would agree with me here. I have nothing against the culture or people, but this is just a comment to posting.

definately glad this move was taken, otherwise we wouldn't be very far off from america. pakoray keep ur fantasies to urself, can definately see ur not muslim if u seem to look at it, disagree against the burning of porn, and even brag that you do look at it. this truly shows how weak muslims are getting.....and its definately sad to see.

Ghaznavi, Ghori, Sher Shah Suri, Ahmed Shah Abdali, Khushal Khan Khattak, Mirwais Nek, Bait Nek, Faqir-e-Ipi, Peer Baba, Roshan Baba, Abdul Ghafoor Akhund of Swat, Bahram Khan, Ajab Khan Afridi, Dilasa Khan, Syed Ahmad Barelvi Shaheed, Shah Ismail Shaheed, Godrhi Shazada and the list goes on and on.
Over 800 years of Islamic conquering by the Pashtun Afghan armies of Hindustan, tell me, what is our culture?
