Is it haram to join say the Pakistan army cos your joining an army which is based on nationalism rather than Islam…is there rules about military service when there is no Islamic state?..

My father was in Pak army.....but I will never let my children join any national or religious army in the current situation of the world. why?

actually in Zia-ul -Haq period and in 1991 gulf war about 90,000 thousand army served for the Khana kaaba and saudia protection...still today..very large no. of pakistan army thier...so pakistan army is actually the army of all muslim ummah as all get feed back and spirits from this army...

Saudi Arabians also have a large number of American forces in their country....it does'nt mean that americans are protectors of muslim Ummah.

Not true......Non muslims are not allowed to enter in Haram(baitullah). Never heard that non muslims can't enter in cities. May be someone else can correct me if I'm wrong?
So you are agreeing that 3 bases were in pakistan.......now they don't need any more bases in pak. They've afghanistan , they have got Iraq , they don't need Pak or Kuwait for this purpose anymore.
Please provide info with references, how pak army is defending Muslims in today's world?
Pakistan army is only supporting west not muslims.

aray bahna ...do not be against PAK army... if some top generals are doing some hanky panky...but i consider it right because Uzbak and taliban have kidnapped hundreds of small children to make them "mujahid" in Wana and noth wazirstan which does not allow by any islam ....jihad is only with government and parents permission..but they are blowing pak army...innocent people in quetta court and other innocent people that jannah will open for them.wht kind of "jannah" they are openng...they should do ths "jihad" in thier own countries ...not in pakistan

I think this would be subject to what the nation represents i.e. ethnicity, color, race, religion, geography etc.

not sure but back in the 80's when I was in KSA. they had checkposts before the cities where they checked to make sure you were muslim before they would let your proceed.
It may have changed since then, because with all the development in the cities I doubt all the workers were muslim.

Well, if you are just a muslim and not a nationalist muslim then there should not be any conflicts based on race, colour or sects.

The role of army is to defend the country. An islamic state will protect its non-muslims as well, why, because they are nationalistic to the state of Islam.
Countries today exist to better manage the geography and resources of the world. Nation is a relative term and depends on what you make it out to be. Even in the prophet SAW time there were different countries and governers were appointed for them. The challenge is to rise above your nationalistic interest and unite as muslims. There is nothing wrong with having separate worldly identities. This is why Allh SWT created us different races and colors. Its despite these differences how we unite together as muslims that matters not that you serve the Pak army or Somali army. The Pak army would defend a country where you live to practice Islam, it is not secular.

But the main Khalifa was same for all the countries. There were no borders with visa requirements.
