4:157 That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.;- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so a face was made to appear to them (Shubbeha Lahum), and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
In the various commentaries of the verse posted by AQ (i prefer the translation "but so it was made to appear to them" rather than "a face was made to appear to them") there are a number of reports – at least one of which is traced back to the Prophet (saw)'s companion Ibn Abbas (r) – describing how Jesus (as), after learning of the Jewish/Roman plot against him, asked his disciples which of them wished to substitute themselves for him and thereby earn his close companionship in Paradise. When one of them put himself forward he was transformed into the likeness of Jesus and willingly sacrificed himself. It was then that Jesus was raised, as his enemies entered the room. Ibn Kathir in his commentary says the report has an authentic chain of transmission to Ibn Abbas. Other reports say Jesus's likeness was placed over all his disciples as his enemies waited outside. One disciple then willingly exited the room and was captured and crucified. Yet other reports suggest it was Judas who was made to resemble Jesus since he betrayed him.
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
thankyou Guys, Id never heard this before
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
Yes a personality like Jesus, would be so afraid of dying that he would ask for one of his disciples to take his place...how friggin offensive. Why is it that islam needs to defile other religions and personalities of those religions to find validity for itself.
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
Lazy, there is another version of the story, if you haven't noticed the ever so long posts about it in religion. In summary, Jesus (as) was put to the cross for a short period of time (a few hours) but he never died there, nor was his bones broken as was the tradition of those crucified. He was catered to in a cave for 3 days and afterwards he migrated to the lost sheep of Israel. It appeared to the Romans and the Jews that they killed him but they didn't.
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
PD, he wasn't afraid of anything... he had already been told he was going to be raised, so there was nothing to fear...
anyway, we are discussing possibilities... so no need to get your knickers all in a twist
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
Ok … you find that offensive. But didn’t Jesus pray to be saved even according to Christians?
(Matthew 27:46): “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
And in (Luke 22:42): “Saying, Father if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” (This cup is the cup of death.)
Wouldn’t you agree that when a Prophet makes a supplication, it has a good chance of being accepted?
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
AhmadJee... your version is the one Ive heard before.

Please learn some manners.
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
Oh and there is another story that one of the roman soldiers was changed to his likeliness and he was the one crucified.
gupguppy, are any of those hadiths that you mention reported in Sahih Sitta? Not looking for a discussion, just some info.
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
The Jesus of the Bible and the Jesus of the Quran are not the same, so there is no need for a Christian to be offended by the Muslim version.
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
What do you mean?
were they two totally different entities or one man with different life according to the Quran or Bible
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
Islam claims them to be one and the same so perhaps it is more accurate to say they have completely different accounts of his life, purpose, importance and teachings.
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
Aren’t we talking about Jesus, son of Mary who raised the dead and cured the incurable diseases (by the permission of his Lord) and who was raised by God and who will return amongst us to establish peace on earth ?
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
And that is where the similarities between the two versions stop. The whole “Jesus Christ, the Savior and Son of God who died on the cross for the sins of mankind and who preached tolerance, forgiveness and compassion for all” is missing from the Quran and that is the basis of Christianity.
Re: Islamic Version of the crucifition of Christ
