Shame covers sleaze

**ISLAMABAD, Feb 9: Sex scandals have rocked the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) in recent months, with several faculty and staff members accused of preying upon the vulnerable female students or juniors.

**Many connected with the university admit that “seedy affairs had been going on in the holy precincts” for some time. But they did not speak on record.

Acting president Sahabzada Sajidur Rehman of the university, however, confirmed that recently a professor and a librarian left the university after allegations of rape emerged against them.

**“We did not approach the police to investigate the allegations as it would have brought bad name to the university and set parents of the 9,500 girls studying here worrying,” he told Dawn on Thursday.
**
Sources in the university claimed that the professor of economics department used to offer his victims “good marks” in examinations in return for sex. He would even force himself upon the unwilling with threats of failing her.

**It was shocking to hear the president of the University Staff Welfare Association, Chaudhry Mohammad Nazir, say “the situation is far worse than what you know”.

**IIUI sources said the professor’s escapades came to an end after he landed his last victim on January 20, a Friday. The university asked the victim to file a formal complaint for initiating action against the accused but her family refused.

However, the students union took up her case and threatened the university administration it would go public with the evidence, the sources said.

It was claimed to be the same kind of evidence that had gone viral on the internet and forced the university’s old librarian to resign a few months earlier.

That was despite the university administration’s alleged attempt to make his victim – a female assistant – to resign on the charge that she was a willing partner. But she firmly refused and went on leave.

On her return, the administration assigned her to a new department, according to her colleagues.

It is not that families of the victims of coercive sex took their sufferings lying down. One father reported a senior faculty member to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat which instructed the Islamabad police to investigate.

When the investigators arrived to probe, however, the university officials pleaded with them to hush up the matter as “the accused has already been punished” and a probe would only tarnish the image of the university and scare the parents.

It is a different matter that for the librarian the punishment meant retiring six months before it was due, and for the professor resigning on his own and securing a new job in the National Agriculture Research Centre, allegedly with the help of friends in the bureaucracy.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals…

Come on naming something doesn’t make it Islamic. That is retarded. So if I name Paris Islamic Capital of France all of a sudden its a shining example of Islam.

And this happens everywhere. All of a sudden it breaks news in Pakistan and its a big deal. It happens in the US, UK, EU, Japan. Everywhere. Yes its bad. But its not anything that doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

The way the university administration tried to hide the crimes is alarming. The situation needs to be controlled otherwise it will become near to impossible for female students to study in our higher education centers.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

So did the Church. So did that University in the states where the Coach was abusing kids. Seriously do Pakistanis have an inbuilt gene for dramatics? A coach in the US physical assaults and rapes young boys for decades and the people blame the coach.

Pakistanis on the other hand blame everybody under the planet and paint a picture as dark as hell. For every good story there are 10 bad ones. For every bad story there are 10 good ones. This is life.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

Every institution tries to hush up such scandals. It is nothing new.

But this is despicable.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

bad administration.......... wat else?

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

Can we blame it on segregation of sexes & sexual tension between them ??? Not sure , but as a general observation , I found men in Pakistan more sexually frustrated than even here in America . May be its the boundaries and whole taboo that surrounds it . May be an easy way of decoupling themselves from the everyday frustrations . May be no check and balances , and they think they can get away with it . A whole lot of factors that puts a man in such a state of mind when he starts thinking of himself invincible and commit these sort of acts .

Done is done , but authorities need to make an example out of criminals so it won't happen again at any level .

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals…

^^ please do not generalize to Pakistan…yes, in a way we are more frustrated, but we don’t go ‘hunting’ every chance we get either. … I’ve seen Europeans and Canadians drooling like dogs over Asian girls… don’t have much interaction with Americans though, but here is something you might wanna take a look.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

leme make a big deal abt this

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

Like every thing else can we blame it on ISI? please please please!!!

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

Not only that. Some people will actually pray that ALLAH TALAH brings azaab to whole Pakistan and whipes off the whole nation, because of the actions of a few.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

This deleted Sahabzada should be tried as an accompalice to rape for not reporting the matter to police.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals…

CM, Islamic University was made to produce modern islamic scholars, its not just like any other institution.

Secondly, every time this happens in “islamic” school, university, the notion of Islam being an answer to every problem or God over seeing its devotee, looses credibility.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals…

I see what you are saying but that’s really not true.

If a bearded imam rapes a girl, Islam is to be considered less credible?

If a priest rapes a boy, Christianity is to be blamed?

You even said about God overseeing its devotee loses credibility? Wow!

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

Not true, but it happens. You can see in post #7 someone blaming the whole society for act of a few.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

Yes unfortunately that happens.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

If practicing Islam is supposed to make society better then this notion does loose credibility.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals…

Bhai sahab! have you been picked up by aliens or someone took control of your account?

You just said “practicing Islam”, does this ring a bell?

I mean a wrongful act by someone or some people or even a larger number of people claiming to act on certain beliefs and does not mean the belief itself is wrong.

Coming to the post in question,It gives a wrong impression as if the university is not a university but a brothel or sexual misconduct is rampant in this institution.

Besides, this is not really a Islamic institution or Masjid etc.

it is auniversity where many different specialties are taught and economic professor is not who one should consider an example of devout Muslim.

:smack:

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

^Its not just about the professor, but the university management's decision to hush up the matter to save its reputation and giving a false sense of confidence to parents of students.

Re: Islamic University rocked by sex scandals...

So what about false sense of lack of confidence?

Look at this way: There maybe hundreds of excellent graduates and teachers who belonged to this institution.

Many of these students would be looking for the jobs to make a living, and this idiot writer writes a sensationalizing article in Dawn.

What do you think that will do to those graduates career and their morale/ambitions? Why hurt soooo many because some evil people did something wrong?

BTW: My earlier response was to your first post which shows your agreement with generalizing a faith from so called followers doing wrongful acts, and not only that, you agreed somehow it is okay to doubt God's ability to oversee his devotees!
