i want to get some more knowledge about aqeeqa and other islamic rulings for newborn babies. is it ok to have a relatives gathering (as in like a aqeeqa food party)?

after that baby is born, a male member of immediate family should say azaan in right ear and aqama in left.
sunnah is to do aqeeqah on 7th, 14th or 21st day
2 goats sacrifice for boys, 1 for girl
shave the head and weigh the hair and then give out equal amount of gold in sadaqah
you can name the baby that day
you can invite family/friends or send the meat to them.

thanks tlk. by the way whose responsibility is it to perform these rulings? i am sure parents should do but what if the grandparents are too interfering?

Its a sunnat, so whoever performs will get the reward. I am not sure what do you mean by grandparents interfering.

i meant to say if the grandparents dont let the parents to do that even though parents are wealthy and can afford easily.

Islamic ruling about this is that kids should always obey parents, till they are asking to do something that is against the shariat.
Your parents (or in laws) cannot stop you from performing sunnat. You re not obligated to listen to them.

that is why I said, Aqqeqah is sunnat. Sunnat is the practices of Prophet Mohammad 
It does not have to be in Quran.
