Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

In another thread I was told by a poster that he see’s no reason why a 9 year old shouldn’t be able to marry an adult if she has reached puberty. This led me to the question the reasonings behind Islamic marriages. Please share your views.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

do you really need a new thread for this?

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

We'll it's a totally seperate subject so I would say yes.

I want to know the reasonings behind the marriages, in the end it might help me understand many of the responses under my other recent thread but combinding the two I don't think would be right.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

What is it that you want to know. Reasons for marriage i.e. Reproduction of human race and sexual satisfaction to prevent the spread of adultery.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

Why answer an obvoius question ?
He will now ask, why 4 is allowed and why not 3 or 5 ? What is significance of four etc. I know these guys >

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

Let him ask. I can ask him why he has two eyes why not 3 or 4.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

I can totally understand why underthedome is asking questions about marriage. It is his right to know what he does not know. Marriage is something that is becoming an alien ritual in the society he comes from. In that culture, everyone is equal. Human, men, women, dogs etc. So, if dogs can live together without marriage, why not human?

Coming from this background, this is understandable to see such curiosity.

USResident: Do tell him what marriage is? Also, tell him that Islam gives severe punishment to anyone who has sex with a teenager out of wedlock.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

I think he lives in the same society as you do

Do you really think the US sees dogs as equals to humans, or you just trying really hard to insult the country that you are suckling from?

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

what do you mean by Islamic marriages? something unusual than what you have had seen some where else?

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

I may live here but I practice my own Religion & my own culture.

Actually, I am sorry, dogs and humans are not equal here.. dogs can live with you in your homes but your parents can’t. They go to old’s people home… my bad

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

why you blaming the culture here? if you are looking that sense, why marry in your family and have retarded kids when you can look out side your cousins and marry some one else. culture shouldnt even be the issue here. if you are practicing your culture, let them practice theirs, and FYI, sending your parents to old people homes is not part of the culture.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

I know it’s part of the materialistic society.. you guys are keep proving me wrong :hoonh:

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

The way I view it, one important point of marriage is to ensure sexual activity occurs within a controlled moral structure.

Given the rising rate of early teen sex in British society in particular and other societies across the world too, I can see a point in the rule that puberty = ready for marriage.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

I absolutely do not agree that reaching puberty means marriage. But certainly if the girl is mature enough mantally to have sex at age 12 13, 14 doesn't matter what age, then yes marriage is the best answer. Too early to committ is all western soceity BS. My far relative cousin got married at 15 here in Toronto and moved to her husband's house in NY state. Obvioulsy change is very difficult at any age, but she was mature enough to start a physical relationship. At 15 she already knew about birth control pills and was soo ready to start a life with her husband. She took over everything at in-laws house and kept up with her studies etc. So who is to say that 14 or 15 is too young to get married.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

I see what your saying but puberty may come in an early age but does maturity come with it, mentally? Is an age 9-13 or even till 17 ready to run a house? In some cases yes, but mostly I have seen, not the best of results.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

But bear in mind that historically (because these young marriages (9-13) don’t tend to happen much anymore), the child would not be running the house, because she would be a subordinate in a joint family.

My Nana had a preference for getting his daughters married young - mymum at 18 and my khala at 17), much to the horror of everyone else in my family (most girls back in the 70s/80s in my family would be married after university) . Nonetheless, my 17 year old khala began running her own house almost immediately and managed it admirably… as did my mum at 18.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

At any rate... do girls even hit puberty at 9? I always thought it happens at the start of the teens.

Re: Islamic Marriages: What is their point?

they can.
