Islamic form of government

I am sure this topic has been discussed before, but as per Raihan’s request I am opening this thread to discuss what he thinks should be a type of Islamic government and how the philosophy behind this government will be a much better alternative to a secular philosophy behind most western government. So Raihan, care to elaborate on how this government will work?

Re: Islamic form of government

That is such a vague question. For example I ask how does the Pakistani system work, you would ask which aspect? ruling, economics, etc

Anyway here's an excerpt from the Draft constitution.

Article 22

The ruling system is founded upon four principles. They are:
1. Sovereignty belongs to the divine law (shar’a) and not to the people;
2. Authority belongs to the people, i.e., the Ummah;
3. The appointment of one Khaleefah into office is an obligation upon all Muslims;
4. Only the Khaleefah has the right to adopt the AHkam Shari’ah and thus he passes
the constitution and the various canons.

Article 23

The State system is made of eight institutions. They are:

  1. The Khaleefah
  2. The delegated assistant (mu’awin at-tafweeD)
  3. The executing assistants (mu’awin at-tanfeedh)
  4. Amir of jihad
  5. Governors (Wulah)
  6. Judges
  7. The state departments
  8. The council of the Ummah (majlis al-Ummah)

Re: Islamic form of government

How is the caliph chosen? What is the role of women? Can a woman be a caliph?

Re: Islamic form of government

Khalif is chosen by election, the number of candidates can be limited by the Majlis Al Ummah. The Majlis Al Ummah can consist of Muslims and Non-Muslims

Women cannot take any ruling positions.

Women can be judges, ambassadors, executive assistants.

Re: Islamic form of government

do you label anyone who is not a wahabi terrorist a fascist hindu?

anyways Raihan, can you give a legitimate reason why a woman should not be allowed to rule?
And are representatives elected to the Majlis Al Ummah? Are women allowed there?

Re: Islamic form of government

CheGuvera,

Thanks for your advice, lets just see how this goes.

misterofall240,

Do you want evidence from the Qur'an and the Sunnah? As there is no other legitimate sources other than that.

Representatives are elected to the Majlis Al Ummah and yes women are also elected.

Re: Islamic form of government

I have aquick question how does this government integrate with the global economy nad the flattening of the world? Would we have magic carpets instead of Suzuki pickups for mode of transportation?

Re: Islamic form of government

The capitalist economies will fail as third world countries will be dealt with on a fair basis and if loans need to be given then they will be on an interest free basis. We will encourage the third world to default on the loans. Our economy will be strong as it will be based upon the gold standard.

If the world flattens then this will have no effect on the policies except that funding will be provided to build a wall to prevent people from falling off.

We will provide funding and encourage new technologies whether it is for transportation or anything else.

Re: Islamic form of government

Raihan,

What is this ‘gold standard’ economy? And, does Allah encourage or allow ppl to break their covenants (default on loans)? Is this some kind of sarcastic joke, or you really subscribe to this view?

Re: Islamic form of government

Some questions:

So this Majlis Al Ummah is a consortium of men and women; of either muslims or non-muslims? What is their role in the government?

And then from this group is elected a Khalif..from only the male muslims?

Who are the votees?

Is it also only the male Muslims who can vote?

Are there any restrictions as to the religion/sex of the two assistants (re: 2nd post)?

Is the restriction on women mostly due to the the religion being formed at a time when it was dangerous for women to be in such position, and therefore adaptable now that the situation has changed; or..just cause women are claimed to be bad rulers (altho men aren’t so dandy)? I’d also like to see what scripture/hadith is in regards to this point, if u have it handy.

thanks

Re: Islamic form of government

Hmm..he might be referring to “do unto others as they do unto you”, which is the Golden Rule…not quite the gold standard. But this statement is very conceptual and is not realistically applicable to economics as a hard fast rule (due to difference in supply-demand and products or services)..but more as a moral decision making framework. But maybe it refers to something else

Re: Islamic form of government

Iam waiting to be enlightened by this ‘economic theory’…some kinda golden rule or what glitters may not be gold… and how about the defaulting of loans requirement? that is so cool…guess thats why our Pakistani banks were bankrupted in the eighties and nineties, they were all following the ‘golden rule’…thou shall only take…

Re: Islamic form of government

V dude have lil faith wont you? happened before can happen again. Islam was given to most divided nation the arabs. You see how far they went with it.

Re: Islamic form of government

There's a reason why this sort of religious law does not rule the world today - because it is hypocritical, inadequate and very easy to manipulate.

The Church has tried it, Islam has tried it and Hindu sects have tried it - all of them failed.

Take any religious principle to its extreme and you will have to do great harm to someone or other - women, weaklings, handicapped, ....

That is why Church and State separated in every culture.

Muslims can either face up to this reality and lessons of history or contribute to the infamy they are bringing to their religion

Re: Islamic form of government

Perhaps reading a little bit about Islamic culture and civilization might help to shed some light on this subject…

Free hospitals, research, free education in campuses, aid to the poor, the first system of social security welfare, stability, progress e.t.c…

True Islamic civilization holds the world’s record for the longest lasting and continuously progressing civilization…Longer even than the Roman and the Grecian combined…

When did the last Khalifa died, 1924? How many years since the decline of the Islamic civilization from its pinnacle to the now humiliated condition we are in now…

Are you so intoxicated with the lies the western media feeds you with smiling anchormen that you are actually judging the rulers of yesteryears with todays?

Is Iyad Allawi a Muslim leader?

That man allowed an entire city under his rule to be razed to ground by the enemy intruders themselves…If he was a true Islamic ruler and not a paid pet of the west, he would have stood in the path of the arriving killers…

Instead, he sold an entire city out…Thousands died…And some turncoats in our midst praise that man…

Is Musharraf a Muslim leader? Are the Kings of Arabia Muslim rulers?

Do not judge the Islamic civilization of today based on mere 81 years of slump in a 1,500 year history…

And take your head out of the western media which is bent on giving you an inferiority complex…Bloody terrorists…

Re: Islamic form of government

^ so according to your theory we should be ruled by a monarchy just like the Ottomans were?

Re: Islamic form of government

Since when is Khilafat monarchy?

Re: Islamic form of government

^ I thought the Ottomans were a hereditary system of Caliphs. or did they have elections to choose the caliph?
