Islamic date header

A date stamp in the header is a pretty common feature in many websites. I was thinking about implimenting an islamic date header on gs.

Reason being, we muslims have lost all track of the islamic calendar and refer to it only for important dates such as the eids, ramzan, 12 rabbi-ul-awwal, beginning of moharram etc.

Looking at the current islamic date everyday will help us gain some sense of time (what month, day, century this is) etc according to the islamic calendar. I believe it will also be a learning experience especially for those of us who are trying to get closer and closer to our religion. Not many of us can list the islamic months in order like we can do with the gregorian calendar thats etched on the back of our heads.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Edit: I just realized one major problem.. every muslim community around the world has its own say on when the new month starts (with the deviation being upto 3 days sometimes). So i guess it’ll be hard to keep up with em all or decide on one authority. Meh.

Re: Islamic date header

Exactly !

This is what first came to my mind after reading this thread.

How would you decide that its 1st Ramadan in Europe and also in America and Asia.. :halo:

But a nice suggestion anyhow :k: Maybe if we implement it here, then at least all Guppies will agree on 1 thing.

Re: Islamic date header

LOL! Surprisingly enough... it was also the very first thing that came to my mind after reading the title of the thread prior to viewing the actual message. :p

It's not like GS is physically located in a country or a particular geographic area like the mosques where one could say 'well.. according to such and such region, ramadan/eid/etc fall on this day'.

If incorporating the Islamic calendar is a feasible idea, then perhaps we could have one that is in accord with Saudi Arabia and others can make a few changes here and there to figure out what the date is in their country/region. At least it'd be better than nothing.

Re: Islamic date header

Saudi Arabic.. of all places? :smack:

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Re: Islamic date header

Well I thought Saudi Arabia would be universal. How about Pakistan? I think that could be more appropriate, as this is a Pakistani message board.

Re: Islamic date header

Three dates can be implemented:

Saudi Arabia: being the center

Pakistan: board being Pakistani

N. America (ISNA based): most members being from this region.

Re: Islamic date header

Saudi Arabia.. where they never have an eid on friday even when it does fall on a friday? :p

Ameer Hamza, ISNA goes by Saudi anyway.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Re: Islamic date header

Instead of Saudi Arab and Pakistan moonsighting.com would be a far better place to rely on. :snooty:

BTW, excelent idea lotay mian

Re: Islamic date header

not really. It went by Saudi hilal sighting only for one year when their director was one of the Arabs. Till now, it is based on local moon sighting and there is a Sharia Council.
This, my friend, is an "insider" story for you :)

Re: Islamic date header

Ameer yaar for the last few years ive been seeing it constantly going by Saudi. The Toronto Hilal Committee (consists of 70+ islamic orgs from toronto) goes by one day and ISNA alone goes by another.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Re: Islamic date header

Moonsighting.com is weird. I heard from someone that it got into some (or may be a lot of) trouble for going against ICNA or something. Ever since then it's been dishing out weird verdicts. You cannot tell whether they're proclaiming there is eid tomorrow or not.

What I see them doing is putting down whatever news they come across from different committees, places, etc. It's pretty much left to the individual to figure it out on his/her own.

Re: Islamic date header

even the last Eid was not according to Saudi :)

Re: Islamic date header

It’s truly a good idea to have an Islamic date showing month and Hijra’t year, I usually have to go to Dawn or Jang site to see it.
You can follow Pakistan’s Islamic date, because all Pakistani website follow Pakistan’s date and no one has any objection in that.

Regarding Arabian date, we have nothing to do with dates in Saudi Arabia, their Calander is FIXed, and it is against the Islamic rules, because we are suppose to see the new moon before we start a new month however Saudis prepared Calendar for whole year. Anyways it’s a different discussion.

If you are really eager to post Islamic Colander here then I will suggest you to go with Pakistan. GS is mainly Pakistani website and majority here are Pakistani so why not Pakistani date? Obviously you can’t set date of 157 countries in here you must choose one!

Re: Islamic date header

conversely, majority of Pakistani guppies are living in N. America so why not N. American date?

See, it's a big issue :-)

Re: Islamic date header

and in 2004 Saudi Govt has changed the date of Hajj, just few days before the Hajj, that shows they are unreliable as well :-)

Re: Islamic date header

Will it solve the issue if you go by NA?
Don’t you think how many EIDs we celebrate in NA ? Yeah definitely its a big issue if we go by all countries, that’s why I suggest Pakistan. We may be living abroad, but our roots are from Pakistan, our relatives and concern is Pakistan :-)

Re: Islamic date header

GS is run from N. America :-)

Dawn and Jang are hosted in Pakistan :p

Re: Islamic date header

No... GS is run by all countries, you need to spend more time here on GS to know it. If Azkar is living in TX doesn't mean he is running it, but all memmebers are running it, he is just managing it!

ps: Dawn and Jang's Servers are in US, if it helps :-)

Re: Islamic date header

Ouch :bummer:

PS:

Re: Islamic date header

things that cause unwanted arguments and debates shud better be avoided....

like always, arabophobia continues with most american based guppies and they talk out blatant lies against saudi arabia....
we've celebrated many EIDs on fridays....
and there is absolutely no controversy in the hajj date this year, we've seen the moon and zul-qaada cud definitely not have had 28 days and the moon was very much visible after 29 days....

but those who stay thousands of miles away can only argue in vain without even knowing which direction to look at when trying to view the new moon....
