Islamic Jamhoori Ittehad was the right wing alliance of Muslim League N, Jamaat Islami, JUI-F, JUI-S etc. As admitted by Brigadier Imtiaz in the recent ARY program, and by General Mirza Aslam Beg in court in Mehran Bank case, the alliance was formed by Pakistan army and ISI (Generals Aslam Beg, Hamid Gul) and Ishaq Khan. Illegal money was used to get support of these right wing parties and form an alliance against PPP.
I am leaving MQM out of this discussion. They were not part of IJI but later went along with the no-confidence motion against Benazir. I am not sure if they played into ISI hands at that time, got bought or just showed their political immaturity in eventually siding with the right wingers.
Were there no laws broken by the perpetrators of this conspiracy? If laws were broken and the whole alliance and money that was exchanged illegal, which laws were borken and what should be punishment for the generals and the politicians involved?
Why are there no charges laid against Aslam Beg, Hamid Gul, Qazi Hussain, Nawaz Sharif, Fazlur Rehman, etc?
Do these parties and these leaders have any credibility or shame left after this? Have they been asked any questions about their role in this? If so what is their defence against this?

An excellent post. This should be debated. PPP was affected party in this fruad. Its leaders should file cases against these thugs. They should be punished for violating the consitiution and civil laws.
mqm as usual played double game but that was not unusual to fake principles it follows. mqm was also created by ISI in the days of mardood Zia-ul-Haq, Allah us ko jahanum nasib karay.
As regard Sharam, it is not in the dictionary of Paki leaders military and politicians both) because there is no accountability except PPP leadership, its founder was hanged by mardood Ziaul Haq, he killed (crushed MRD movement in the eighties which was started by Jatoi in rural Sindh) tortured, jailed, lashed thousands of ppp workers to supress uprising againt him. After Bhutto his both sons were killed his wife and daughter (Nusrat) were put in jail by mardood for many years. He left them free when Indra Gandhi intervened. Later a number of corruption cases were filed against BB and and her husband AAZ(present president). AAZ spent 9 years in jail no case was proved against him.

MQM supporters need to do better than this, taking money from agencies (which is corruption) does not equal ethnic cleansing practiced by MQM.

Karachi does not "generate" revenue, rather revenue is "collected" at karachi, which is custom duty, sales taxes on imports, and excise duty. So the lalokheti voter of MQM contrubutes nothing to revenue generation.

It is you who brought mqm side by side with IJI. There were some apprehensions about whether mqm was acting on the advise of its creators ISI to vote against BB in no confidence move, to which I replied that it was also created by ISI during Zia's rule. It is possible that they might have acted on the advise of General Aslam Baig. Indirectly they sided with right wing parties JI and PML(N).
Perhaps it was an error to mention MQM name even if they were not part of IJI. I was hoping to pre-empt any questions about that.
What I would really like to know is if any laws were broken in the way IJI was formed by sitting generals? Aslam Beg and Hamid Gul are very vocal in the media. Hamid Gul's response to Brig Imtiaz interview was that "Brig Imtiaz Aaj Kal Bohat Ziada Chehek Rahay Hain"! I have only read an old article by Cowasjee on Mehran Bank scandal, asking for the people involved to be prosecuted.

Most of the tax is colected at port, which Altaf Bhai did nto bring from Lakhnaoo, it is poperty of Pakistan not of piglet Altaf and his children.

Definitely contry's laws were broken. Military can not involve directly in politics and spend millions of $s for creating an artificial alliance against most popular political party. Whether Mirza Aslma Baing or Mush or any military official can be tried in Pakistan civil courts that is a question mark. In the history of Pakistan never a military official ever tried in civilian courts on such accounts or major disasters. I don't know.
Zardari at presnet is on path of re-conciliation becasue of the severe crisis of jehadis faced by the country. Opening new fronts by Zardari may not be possible or advisable. However other PPP leaders like Ch Aitezaz Ahsan, Badar Janagir or Raja Pervez Ashraf are in position to move this matter to courts. But then again I am doubtful. The loyalties change in this dynamic environment.
