Maybe he isnt an extremist, but man this guy needs a chill pill... He is full of Sh1t...
Who cares what people do at their wedding, and who cares if people have their palms read.. Its irrelevant!
God certainly doesnt care, its just harmless distraction from crappy world that god created.
Islam is open to interpretation, and not everyone is going to agree... Thats why people in Pakistan follow Islam in their way. Thats one of the great things about Pakistan, that people are free to practice their faith the way the like (atleast where there arent Taliban terrorists).
Pakistan is a country full Muslims who believe in Live and Let Live, and thats whats most important.
Re: Islam in Pakistan
So who is he to say that just because ppl have mixed weddings they’re NOT Muslim???
Anyways, whether mixed weddings are wrong or not, that’s not what the guy was asking..He should’ve answered the question properly rather than just going off on a tangent.
Re: Islam in Pakistan
That dear lady is because this is a common approach to avoid answering tough questions, since deep down in one’s self is a lingering spark firing out that something is wrong with the way things are. It is tough to confront your demons… especially if you’re an Islamic apologist.
Re: Islam in Pakistan
^ I'm not sure exactly what you mean by Islam apologist; I think the guy had a great opportunity to express his knowledge (if he has any), but he blew it by totally avoiding the issue altogether and bringing up something else
Re: Islam in Pakistan
Not every family function in Pakistan features a dancing bride or has alcohol served. This is most likely to be found in the elite circles of the society. Even then I agree that Pakistani is not an Islamic country per se, but rather a country where majority of the citizen are Muslims.

NO!
Pakistan is a Muslim country, and as Muslims we have always believed and practiced Amr bil Ma'roof wa Nahi un al Munkar, 'cause it is the Quran which commands us to do so...
So YOUR "live and let live" philosophy is alien to the land and to the muslims, so please give it a break...and dont try shoving foreign ideas down people's throats.

Who is this guy?!?!? QUOTE]
I THINK his name is Abdul Rahman Green… i may be wrong though
u should be really careful in making claims of God doesn and doesn’t care about… if ur’e going to, back it up with an ayat or a hadith!
For a bunch of ppl to solely believe in “Live and Let Live”… well they should define themselves differently.
MUSLIM; this is a person who SUBMITS to the teachings of Islam… period!
ummm… he never said that! all he said is that Pakistan is NOT an islamic country… mix gatherings/ dancing/ fortune telling are UNISLAMIC acts, but they dont strip a person of the laqab of being Muslim.
Pakistan is a country that allows for so many things that Allah SWT DISAPPROVES of, lets count a few: haram banking, scantly dressed women everywhere, rishwat, dowry, naach, gaana, mixed gatherings in a lot of sectors, a constitution thats apparently based on sharia but not really implemented, oh… and the amount of shirk (astughfirullah), and a never ending list of biddah… all this “rishan khiali” isn’t help us on our path to Heaven u know!
so once again to sum it up, Pakistan is a country full of “Muslims”, who are more Muslims by name then by practise… May Allah help us All.
Wassalam.
Re: Islam in Pakistan
Good discussion!
Re: Islam in Pakistan
Seriously??? Is this man for real? People like him piss me off so much. I can’t believe people actually paid to attend his nonsense lecture. What this guy need is a real job; some hard work will do him some good.

so you are denying the verse Lakum deenukum waliya deen?
--- PS
And to the person who did not understand my earlier post. Islamic apologist in my view is one who portrays Islam as a religion, and defends the religious philosophy...

Who has always believed and practiced *Amr bil Ma'roof wa Nahi un al Munkar? *Ossama Bin Laden? Or Mullah Omer? or our Jamat-e-Islami? or Lahkar Jhangvi? or Sipah-e-Sahaba? or You?
Giving yourself an Arabic sounding name does not mean that you have the right to impose *Amr bil Ma'roof wa Nahi un al Munkar *as per your understanding of Islam.
Re: Islam in Pakistan
Palmistry is worse than alcohol? =\
Re: Islam in Pakistan
nah I think he was talking about how the bride was dancing up on stage and how they have alcohol at some weddings now.
Anyways, notice how he did not say these people are not Muslims. He said “this is not Islam”. We are not the ones to make the decision of who is a Muslim and who is not - that’s up to Allah.

Why were your eyes looking at those scantily dressed women? Where was your heya when you were judging those scantily dressed women? It is amazing how our religious people are so keen on looking at these women.
Recently I was in Dubai eating out in a Pakistani restaurant. There were four mullah's sitting on a table in front of me. I watched with disgust as these apparently pious people did not miss staring at any women or girl passing by.
It is also amazing that our religious community never think about other issues in the society like religious extremism, inter-sect killings, favoritism/nepotism in religious groups, etc. They never raise voice over the mala-fide use of apostasy or other pseudo-religious laws. Apart from a very few, almost all the religious people I have come across are insensitive hypocrates.
Re: Islam in Pakistan
^
I don't think they're hypocrites. It's just some issues are very easy to deal with, others are not. I personally have yet to meet a Mullah type who actually approves of inter-sect violence, nepotism, or what not. I have noticed that people who state such things simply don't meet with Mullahs at all...their only familiariity with such types are the sound bites they get form here and there, no doubt fed to them from people who have an anti-traditionalist mind-set.
Problem is, when they DO raise their voice over that kind of nonsense, they're ignored. The minute they talk about scantly clad women or alcohol...then whoooooboy, all bets are off.
So you know, it's really insane to fault the religious alone on this. Sure, on the one hand you have the Mullahs going on about it. On the other, you have the irreligious actually doing the crap the Mullahs go on about. Meanwhile, ain't NOBODY even thinking about all the hard problems the country is facing.
