iskanjbeen

Or whatever you call it in punjabi. I know its lemonade but sorta like lemondade on ecstacy.

Whats a good authentic way to make it? I used to have it from a thelay wala in saddar after school everyday and it was the bestest iskanjbeen ive ever ever had even till now. If you think yours can top it please post a recipe. Thanks.

Re: iskanjbeen

here is my recipe:

I lemon
2 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 glasses of water
2 cups of crushed ice

Squeeze the juice out of the lemon(large size if using small use 2) To the squeezed lemon juice add sugar salt and ice and start mixing this.

Once ice, salt, sugar and lemon juice is well mixed. Taste it to see if you need to adjust sugar or salt. Now add water and let it sit for 5 minutes and drink.

Re: iskanjbeen

Thanks Mahru, but i thought there was some laal mirchain involved somewhere? The ones ive had have always been killer spicy.

Re: iskanjbeen

I have never heard of iskanjabeen with laal mirchain. Iskanjabeen is usually for cooling due to heat and by adding mirchi in that would defeat the purpose plus who wants a heartburn along with a heatwave?????

Re: iskanjbeen

They use Kala namak …to give it that ‘killer’ taste.

Re: iskanjbeen

:hehe: don’t even think about it

however “kala namak” can be use but its optional

Re: iskanjbeen

:hehe: u sure it was lemonade =)

Re: iskanjbeen

a glass of water, a bit of lemon juice, 2/3 tbsp sugar and one teaspoon of jal zeera powder and few cubes of ice is the similar taste of shekanjbeen or shekanji that i always drank at a thela while shopping in some karachi markets. I found last year about jal zeera when i was visiting india and my nana kept on telling me to drink jal zeera. First i didn't wanted to drink it because i didn't knew how would it taste like. But once i drank it..i realized that its the same ingredient that's added to shekanjbeen and pani walay gol gappay. You can find jal zeera at an indian store and its also good for stomach problems.

hey what's jal zeera powder? :o is it available easily in pk?

Is the above recipe similar to Pizza Hut's masalha lemonade? I was wondering which 'maslha' they add.. it tastes tooo good.. Man! I'm gotta love with it.. its so refreshing.. mouth watering..

Re: iskanjbeen

skanjveen :hmm:

Re: iskanjbeen

I thought it was skanjavi :hoonh: But I think ours always had kala namak and try using pure cane sugar instead of white.

Re: iskanjbeen

Is black salt the stuff that is really a pink colour, but i think when put in liquid it turns black and absolutely STINKS of rotten eggs?

Re: iskanjbeen

^lol...

sheekanjee khatae hain.

Re: iskanjbeen

Jal zeera is yummy...and yeah so good for clearing out your stomach.

Yeah the black salt thing smells awful...I know people who love it!!

But what IS Jal Zeera? :s is it simple zeera we use in our daily food?

Re: iskanjbeen

so what is jal zeera?

Re: iskanjbeen

When you google it, jal zeera = a whole diff drink made with tamrind and other spices. Its not a powder. Maybe you guys are talking about adding roasted zeera powder to skanjvi?

jal = water, zeera = cumin

Re: iskanjbeen

^jala howa zeera :)

Re: iskanjbeen

Fate has a funny way of playing itself out. Back when i opened this thread i was looking for ways to make good lemonade, but then due to my ADD i soon forgot about this thread.

Now just a few days ago i was at the desi store and i saw a lemon squeezer for $2 so i picked it up. Then i thought since i have a lemon squeezer i would need some lemons too, so i picked up a few lemons. Last night i when i was about to make some lemonade i thought maybe i’ll google a decent way to make lemonade. And guess what results i get on google? This thread! :smack:

Anyway so i made lemonade / shikanjvi last night with cane sugar and some salt and it tasted amazing! Its raining outside and i feel like having another go.

Maybe later ill go and get some kala namak and jalzeera and make it using those too. Mm mmmmm summer.

Re: iskanjbeen

Excuse me, has anyone made lemonade with fresh mint? Its very nice, whizz up peeled lemons, sugar and mint leaves in a blender. Delicious.
