ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharna

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK’s Dharn

The resignation of Mushidullah does signal something and it was an indication that something was in the works. The truth about these allegations, however, is debatable.

It’s obvious PTI is bleeding after the finding of the JC verdicts and most political talks shows were abuzz about the winding down of these long and grueling dharna’s over 4 months.

Just a few days after the verdict, in the Apas Ki Baat program, Najim Sethi had an interesting analysis regarding dharna’s, IK, Shuja Pasha, and Zaheer Ul Islam involvement. It covers some insight into this whole saga…

Army is not the ‘sacred cow’ that some claim it to be, it always has and will maintain influence in domestic politics. Their are certain individuals within its ranks who would be ready to pounce given the opportunity and pak has a long history to prove it. No doubt the current COAS and jawans are doing a great job to control lawlessness and the effort is commendable.

^ Do u think some action will be taken against the holy cow.

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

Sure is.

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

Kayani's extension was a blessing in disguise. If not given, he would have retired 2 years earlier, resulting in a new COAS. If that COAS had gotten an extension, chances are, that could have resulted in Lt. Gen Raheel Shareef getting superceded, and we would have never seen him as COAS.

But praising Generals is a fine line to tread. The public loved Gen. Ayub, Gen. Zia, and Gen Musharraf when they were chiefs, as well as when they were presidents. And that love was more a reaction to the 'hate' public had for politicians, rather than the love they had for the generals. Its just that the public expects a quickfire burst by 'good generals' to right Pakistan's ship, but generals usually end up staying for much longer, which wrongs whatever rights they do initially.
Thats why I feel its ok to feel satisfied about Gen. Raheel Shareef 'doing his job', but not to praise him as a messiah.

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

The reason of failures of these generals is they believe them selves as Masiah , super human , super patriot and civilians as stupid, super lotey. At the end when they were not able to run this country ( sure it needs more brainer to run a country than to run people in uniform ) they end up with the same civilains / politicians against whom they came to rescue the nation.
Musharraf tried to develop LB system which may have brought new faces which are not based on ethnicity , bradary system , wadeera system. but he fail miserably and end up with people like chaudhry brothers which is a shame..

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

When generals succeed (for whatever short period), its because they have the only organized institution in the country at their disposal (army).....They fail because they try to mix and match it with democracy.
Civilians fail because they have no organized institutions at their disposal....and they usually have had no interest in getting organized. That is why they rely on things like freebies (BISP) or lollypops (yellow cab, laptops) in order to garner interest, and call it their success.

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

^^ agreed upon that. But u may have read that if democracy is failing , only solution is more democracy . Booster injections of Martial law will damage more , unless we decide and develop new system which is different than democracy. What ever system chosen need to run for some time. It will filter the dirt by it self .

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

Democracy not failing , The establishment never wanted democracy to work ,
Memogate in previous government and IK's Dharna in present regime are small examples

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

A General who literally blows a new life into the country while she's on her death bed would very much be seen as a messiah. His leadership had produced speedy results beyond anyone's expectations hence the special praise he gets. This whole action against terrorism was going absolutely no where before Gen Raheel. He is quite literally having his Ataturk moment - perhaps even a slightly better version of that.

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

True....but doesn't really bode well for democracy though. Army and Rangers are doing what police should be doing. The better the results, the more reliant we get on army for internal security, and consequently, police, as an institution, gets worse.

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

Good thing is COAS is not chairing Apex Committee in KPK - KPK police is doing it's job and taking the initiatives. Corps Commander don't need to meet Khattak with stick in their hand to scare him into following NAP. It is ironic that province which was centre of terrorism related violence is now the most orderly place in Pakistan. The depoliticised KPK police certainly had its role to play in bringing peace and cutting down crime rate in province almost by half! 3 years back, no one would have imagined that warn torn KPK would experience such surprising levels of stability and progress. The province which was always paired with Balochistan is now being compared with Punjab on every level. No wonder PTI got elected twice from KPK despite Khattak not being young, dynamic and good looking enough.

Unfortunately, for some reason very easy to add 'bloody' next to civilians and bail them out of any accountability and responsibility as long you can prove how they 'bloody civilians' are innocent victims of strong military. For example, Karachi operation had been going on for over two years - Rangers are doing all dirty work and taking care of the hard issues, hence the field is open for Sindh Government to reform the police, so they have some kind of working and reliable back up once Rangers leave. But no, there's absolutely nothing. Once Rangers leave, Karachi will fall back to the dogs, so the question is for how long Army can police Karachi?

Similarly, the LoC tensions and constant firing and killing of innocent Pakistanis give Nawaz Sharif a perfect and the easiest opportunity to show leadership and take this issue seriously and become slightly well received in the public - but not, he had not even once condemned the violence and India or acknowledged the human suffering. This is so sad, I actually feel so sorry for him, either his insincerity and heartlessness goes beyond our imagination or his advisers are proper screwing him up. But once again, the vacuum is filled by Gen. Raheel. So I guess enough of invoking undue sympathy and victim-hood for civilians by making them look like helpless victims of military dominance. Just admit the fact that have failed to rise and avail the opportunities for their own sake - forget about the country for a second.

On a separate note I find it ironic that people who do not like military stealing the spotlight and getting so popular with general public to the point people literally want them to run everything get so happy to know or envision a weak, diluted, and disappearing PTI, and I'm thinking if PTI cease to exist as a third option, what's the worse that can happen - military will come back to being the 1st or 2nd option to run the country depending on who you speak to. So make your mind up whether you are friends or foes of 'bloody civilians' who generally are on the right path.

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

Aside from FC, the Rangers of western Pakistan and different from Frontier Constabulary, I think that at a minimum 70k? troops are deployed for operations in KP. In karachi, army gets all the credit even though Rangers are jointly owned by civvies and army, while Skeleton gets all the credit in KP. Do you think that everything would be horky dorky with the supermen aka KP police if and when the army is not there?

Looks like someone is trying to give AP a run for his money ! :D

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

Game of Pakistani Thrones ... Fascinating stuff. Hope the Generals learn they can no longer hijack the countries future.

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

It is actually IG Nasir Khan Durrani (IK gets some credit here because he wanted Nasir as IG) who has made a difference. Whether we like it or not, but one of the things PTI has done well in KPK is depoliticising the police. It may not be perfect but KPK police is still better than the police in other provinces (and I have heard this from people who have visited Peshawar etc. during the last year).

Infact Shahbaz Sharif was reluctant to let Durrani (previously worked as Punjab Counter Terrorism Department Additional IG) go because of his highly professional reputation and good performance.

Re: ISI Chief Zaher-ul-Islam wanted to take control of country by planning IK's Dharn

We haven't done a study yet, but lot of the crime was associated with taliban / TTP. It isn't entirely out of logic for them to be involved in ransom and drug smuggling when they could be in illegal business all the way south in karachi.

Consider me a skeptic, which might be a good thing when it comes to Pakistan, but I don't think the police can improve magically in Pakistan just like how "magically" afghan army and police have become sooo efficient and capable as it is couple with the US exit. Of course, you do read in the "news" about the high desertion rates in both forces but not the front page.

Terrorism is down across all of Pakistan, so you can't really say it is only KP.
