It is easy to find faults in with this and other similar articles but you have to remember that such articles and op-eds reflect the western view of events in Pakistan. Now, you can ignore them as academic exercise if Pakistan is not expecting anything from the west, but that is not the case. Even though any particular aid package is not tied to public opinion, over time, it is impossible to provide significant aid to causes that are seen detrimental to the western society.

The west as well as Pakistanis themselves intrinsically understand that till date it is the Pakistan military that has kept Pakistan from away from anarchy and provincial wars. Given that how is it possible to see Pakistani army as different from Pakistani government? A Pak govt by Pak military is vastly different (eg under Musharaf) than without

What is the significance of inducting Pakistan into NATO? It can serve some 'pride' but how is that possible when nobody trusts ISI which is very much a Pak military organ? All it will do is that instead of US worrying about keeping secrets away from ISI, NATO will worry about that!

All said, there are more fundamental reasons I think that need to be addressed INTERNALLY within Pakistan
