ishtikara/faal

So we’ve found this guy via matrimonial wali aunty and me and my family really like him. he has a good job, educated, and very well mannered. my mum told my grandad to take a faal out from the quran and the words fraud came out twice. now this has freaked me out.. i dont know what to think.
we’re planning on doing ishtikara now but i’m really scared. the guy is from back home and has been living here, the UK, for the past 6 years and works in a bank.
i really like him and so does my fmaily but what i’ve heard has really really scared me. i dont know what to think now..

Re: ishtikara/faal

Don't go ahead with it =)

Re: ishtikara/faal

i’ve just come accross this http://www.islam.tc/cgi-bin/askimam/ask.pl?q=12029&act=view

so will have to wait and see what the ishtikara says.

Re: ishtikara/faal

who is doing the istekhara? you or your mom?

Hearing about Faal thing first time in my life.

Re: ishtikara/faal

What's a Faal?

Re: ishtikara/faal

^ Its a thing stupid, and gullible girls must resort to to recieve a reality check

Re: ishtikara/faal

Do not take this FAAL seriously, better do Istikhara your self for at least 5 nights continuously. As person sometime misunderstand the answer.

Re: ishtikara/faal

Faal? Whats that?

Re: ishtikara/faal

This is the first time I'm hearing of the word, "faal." But I'm guessing that it refers to a method where you turn to a random page of the Quran and the word that you see or perhaps point to......is like a sign (depending upon the meaning or connotations of the world) of whether or not the intended plans should be proceeded with or not. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Now, I could be wrong, but I think that to fully get an understanding of what a word means and how it's used.......you, may have to look at the whole sentence.

Now about the Istikhara. I think many people....after performing Istikhara or getting someone else to do it........start looking for "signs" in their dreams and other places. And I think the problem with that is that signs can be confusing...sometimes contradictory...and they're open to interpretation. And because of this, you DO have to use your own judgment/sense.

In the Istikhara dua......(referring to it's translation) you're basically asking Allah that if the intended plan is GOOD for you in both this world and the next.........that He make it easy for you and bless it for you. AND that if the intended plan is HARMFUL for you in both this world and the next world.........that He turn you away from it.....give you better...........and make your heart content with His will.

Notice the words or the idea of "turning one away"........."turning one away" does not necessarily mean that you'll receive some sort of sign in a dream in order to be warned or encouraged. The way I see it....and also what I've heard/read is that if it's good for you Allah will make it happen. If it's not good for you......it simply won't happen. I've even heard that one may have a feeling/inclination in their heart...but keep in mind that marriage can be a scary step and some of those "negative" feelings may even be a result of cold feet.

So, IMPO.........if you and your family really like this guy.....and if your family has fulfilled their responsibility of THOROUGHLY checking this guy out to the best of your abilities, then go ahead with the rishta.

Re: ishtikara/faal

hearing 'faal' for the first time...........

Re: ishtikara/faal

Quran is not meant for Faal.
Faal is when a parrot picks a card from a deck of cards. The parrot wala tells you your fortune based on the selected card and 20 rupees.

Please educate your parents and spread the word to other ignorant people.

Re: ishtikara/faal

hmmmm i think if u like him and u want to marry him...then u should....it is already written who u are going to marry...even if that marriage will fail...it is written! so i think if it is meant to be it will happen..

Re: ishtikara/faal

Its not the first time i heard of 'faal'. Although for the cats who cant help trusting any somebody, any and all help is seriosuly vital.

A point is, I do not know if 'faal' is from the authentic sunnath. One should try relevant methods proven from the sunntah too.

Regarding Istikhara, I second an earlier poster, where Istikhara does not have to give a sign, and that it is also a kind of special dua to Allah to do the best for you and incline your heart to the right path.

A standard recommendation with respect to the above is to do Istikhara for 7 days, and then follow what your heart tells you.

Irrespectivly, You need to check this guy out thoroughly...check out his place of work...his education credentials....and all.
Although I give greater importance to Istikhara,
'Faal' is a traditional and somewhat known method to be honest.
Personally, I would not totally rebuff a faals indication.
I would advice to pursue Istikhara too.

Re: ishtikara/faal

If one does istikhara he/she would either get reply in dream or when wake up in the morning first thought about about the matter would be answer.

It is possible ones personal preferfarace or bias make him/her confuse thus thus reaching wrong understanding, that's why it is advisable to do it 5 or 5 night continuesly.

Re: ishtikara/faal

I was about to write this whole concept but thaks to you for saving up my words.

Most of the people belive that istakhara gives them green signal for doing or not to do something but it isn't the fact. Istakhara will help you let things smooth in your way if this thing is good for you and otherwise not.

Secondly, I would highly recommend that do it yourself rather asking someone else to do it

Re: ishtikara/faal

how is istikhara done yourself?

Re: ishtikara/faal

You can do it yourself. It's just a 2 rakat namaz. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read that in the first rakat you recite surah Kafiroon after surah Fatiha. And then in the second rakat, you recite surah Ikhlas after surah Fatiha. After praying, you recite the dua.

Re: ishtikara/faal

as T1000 said, do it yourself. That would be the best.

As far as the answer thru istekhara is concerned, I have done it quite few times. I do see dreams, sometimes very clear and othertimes blurred n unclear. But yes one thing is for sure, if you are doing it for a good cause like shadi, and u are honest at heart, you do get ishara. Like u can see a very nice dream and u ll wake up in morning with a light happy heart. I am talking out of exp. If you see a very bad dream, you still can go for the boy for shadi after reassuring his background etc. Its not compulsory that u follow according to signal u recieve from istekhara. At the end its all your choice.

Re: ishtikara/faal

It is 2 Rakat namaaz, but i dont know about Kafiroon part. I never did myself coz i never read it in any wazaaif books that i have. What i do is simple two rakaat namaaz, and at the end the Duaa e Istekhara, the one you translated in your above post.

Re: ishtikara/faal

faal does not stand any value

but as people have mentioned earlier about istikhara....

you dont always get signs after istikhara, it is kind of a prayer that if a certain thing is good then you ask Allah (SWT) to make it happen for you and if its not the take it away from you....
