Three matches of absolute gut wrenching tension and cricket of highest quality. I cant help but thinking is it the greatest series to be played between top two teams in the world?
Indian media will tout 2001 series with australia as the greatest ever but this series is being played between two teams of highest stature.
I have other nominations in mind but will wait to hear from guppies first.
In my personal opinion when you have to decide about the best series ever, there has to be an eligibility criteria. The series has to be atleast 4 match or ideally 5 match series. Therefore I will not count 2001 India Austrlia series even as the contender for the best ever series. India vs Australia in 2003-4 can be considered. But the matches were not that close when you compare with this series.
Australia had some tremendous encounters with Windies both in australia (92-93) and in Windies (99).
I don't know if its the best ever series but definitely it is the best series in the recent memory mainly due to the fact that almost every match has given unforgettable intense moments.
This series has been gripping - when India-SL was going along with Eng-Aus, this time all of us in the family ended up watching the latter. Flintoff has single handedly brought cricket back to England.
Even though I like both the Indian and Sri Lankan teams, and do not like the Aussies or English teams too much, the sheer quality of cricket and the competition was unsurpassed in recent memory. The last 2 tests beat out even most one dayers I can think of.
nopes...
but it is intresting after PAK-IND series...
when pakistan toured india last year...
every test went to final sessin of 5th day...
DO REMEMBER IT!!!
Aus started this Ashes with some in-form players left out of the squad.
Then some Aus players faced injuries and weeknesses, while for England they launched their best players and almost no player was prone to injury or fitness.
If Aus has launched their best squad and they have remained FIT throughout the Ashes, then it might have been amongst the best series.
For England it is the best series, as they have an upperhand over Aus after a long time. (in Ashes)
i have never watched test cricket with that much interest..
the white kits, english commentators with excellent analysis, the crowd supporting the guest team, the emotions, the nail-biting endings… aah all that excitement.. sighz.. I will miss this series the most… Will anxiously wait for next ashes…
i luv the spirits of both teams… GO ASHES …
p.s. someone told me abt ashes history.. its quite fascinating.. i m sure u all know it..
for those who don’t check this link
hmm so according to you australia tests squad was not the best one because of symond's absence. And we are not talking about any other ordinary side but Australia. So this guy has to be someone with a tremendous test record thats why australians were weakened in his absence.
So how many test matches he played before that? What was his performance and how many times he has contributed in aussie test victory with a major performance in those matches?
Plz try to come up with a logical and reasonable answer (for once)
If Andrew and symonds were included instead of Mathew and Hayden ,
If Mike and Hussy were included instead of Damien and Martyn ,
If Kasprowitch was preferred over Gillespie ,
..... ,
Then Aus must have performed a lot better.
Symonds was never offered much chances in Tests. He has just played 2 Tests. He is an excellant player and hold the record for scoring most "Six" in a First-Class.
Same applies to Hussy. He was never offered chances.
hmm lets see they have not played test matches so how come you are so sure that they will be a valuable asset in the test squad.
There are alot of players in first class matches with phenomenal records but never play test cricket. Any idea why Mr. Wise Guy?
