Hi everyone!
My MIL asked me to send her pictures of jewellery designs for my valima set. I do have a few pictures but I know that if she goes searching for specific designs in San Fran or Chicago, it’ll be like looking for a needle in a hay stack. She has family in Lahore so they may be able to help her out. The safest strategy in my opinion is to provide a specific design and tell them where to go so that there are no dissappointments.
Can any of you confirm if this set is from Waseem jewellers in lahore? If yes, any idea of how much it would be? See link—
Thanks Sara. I hope so too!
Yeah Rabia, the girl wore a Nomi Ansari outfit so I'm confused too. I do remember seeing a very similar set in Rubies on GS and it was from Waseem Jewellers.
I have been to all these jewellers recently so i have a fair idea of what their collection is about. Afzl n especially Sonica jewellers would be able to provide u sets which may not be very heavy in terms of weight but they would give u the look of it. Basically meaning if you dont want to go for a very pricey set but still want to have something chunky then they would be the people to go for. However if you are someone with a keen eye for quality you'd notice the difference in their making compared to say karat n ruby jewellers.
Karat is pricey but they have good stuff though lately their service n quality has been poor. Ruby jewellers have awesome stuff and we have been going there since i was a baby so basically they are our family frnds. But i will tell you this that they do charge alot for making but then if you want quality and prefer it over quantity i.e the size of the set then you should go for them.
Maham you are a life saver!
I don't like big sets and this necklace is pretty much as big as it should get.
Definitely something delicate and sophisticated over chunky. Not too keen on trendy/unique/abstract designs as I'd want my jewellery to be TIMELESS.
It's funny you mention Ruby Jewellers becasuse my MIL shopped for her 2 daughters and DIL from there about 10 years ago and says that if she does go to Lhr in March, she would go to Ruby Jewellers.
What I like about this set is the size, the tone of the gold and the variation in stones. The emeralds really pop and the zircons/diamonds prevent it from looking boring.
What I wouldn't mind changing is the shape of the necklace and earrings.
So based on this:
1) Which jeweller would you recommend I visit (as I'll be going to Lhr next month) and ask my MIL/her relatives to go to?
2) What is the price range for a good quality set at a place like Ruby Jewellers?
Aqsa, the set pic you post is pretty interesting though i wouldnt necessairly pick the same for myself if i had to. But its a nice blend of traditional n the contemporary. But like you said, you are liking the stones n the tone of the set more than the usual shape of it so i think you are perhaps someone who would like ruby jewellers more who happen to have good quality of stones n well balanced sets.
But sonica also have a huge variety n often u can find some well designed sets from there too. But i am not sure how genuine their stones are but with ruby its more reliable. I think when you come down you should definately visit both the jewellers if not all fours. After all you pay that much for a set and its worth looking around to find your perfect set.
I am assuming this set in the pic should be around 12-14 tolas?! but i m nt sure. I dont think i m very good with guessing the sizes here lol. But yah depending on the stones which i m assuming its real emeralds here, the set cud perhaps range from .............lets do a lil math here....suppose its 12 tolas;
gold price wud be around- 4.5 lakhs (im thinking its 36/tola)
making + stones- around 1.5 lakh
So we are talking about 6 lakhs here for a 12 tola emerald set. I am hoping i wont be that off but will check with my sister and confirm you.
I put price 35k/tolas which i think would be for 24 karat. But when we r buying gold in set we r charged for 22 karat so i think it would be around 32k. Just a guess.
So the gold price would come to= 12(tolas)*32= 3.84 lakhs
Making calculation is very complicated but to make it easy for you, i wud say if its a well made, one of their best sets they wud charge u 36 per tola instead of 32. And the added 5k wud be their cost of the stones n making.
12*37= 4.44 lakhs
So ya around that for a 12 tola set.
Hope its not too complicated. Lol. i just called up my sister @ 2 am to get the calculations right :P. Hope it helps.
Maham you seem you have good knowledge of recent prices, Lets say If I have a gold brick of 10 tolas in 24 Karat and I want something similar to the picture above but in 7 Tolas, How much is it that I will have to pay extra ?
^ this is what u want to work around. Hmm lets c...;
7tolas set= 7*37= 2,59000 rupees
So you can definately get a similar set in 7 tolas without having to pay anything. Infact according to my calculations you will save around a lakh but lets just keep that aside as its quite possible you like something which is 8 or 9 tolas or something which is higher in making/stones.
Thanks Sara. I hope so too!

There is no way that is “real” diamond polkhi. It’s either zircon or sapphire polkhi, which is not that costly. The only real diamond polkhi available at Nauattan is imported from Jaipur and looks completely different.
