A: What kind of chips are you eating?
B: Doritos, the spicy sweet chilli ones, the ones in the purple bag.
A: I only know about the ones in the red bag, never seen any in purple or blue bags.
B: What?! Do you live under a rock!?
Is the last statement that “B” said rude? This conversation took place between two friends who are informal with each other, they joke around etc.
Pfft guys say worse to each other all the time. If it was my friend I would have implied he was retarded, stupid and much more and he would have punched me. Chalta hai.
well it wont be rude since u said they are informal with each other and do jokes etc.....unless the tone is clearly rude or insulting.....but it all depends on how the other person takes it.
personally if i was their i wouldnot have liked someone asking me 'do u live under a rock?' that too for such a small thing......i dont know why some people expect you to know everything.....agar kisi ko nahi pata tou usay bata do..simple.
there is one point though....may be B was rude coz s/he found A rude when s/he said 'I only know about the ones in the red bag, never seen any in purple or blue bags.'
It's not such a big deal. It's just an exaggerated comment. It's not like saying "What, are you like retarded or something?"....which would be considered more rude....and depending on how close the friendship is, it might not. Let it go. :)
Also, you will NOT know everything about everything. If it wasn't a bag of chips, then the same comment could be made for something else (bigger or smaller) that you didn't know about. Applies to everyone.
