**TWO WOMEN TALKING
**Woman 1: Oh! You got a haircut! That's so cute!
Woman 2: Do you think so? I wasn't sure when she gave me the mirror. I mean, you don't think it's too fluffy looking?
Woman 1: No, it's perfect. I'd love to get my hair cut like that, but I think my face is too wide. I'm pretty much stuck with this stuff I think.
Woman 2: Are you serious? I think your face is adorable. And you could easily get one of those layer cuts - that would look so cute I think. I was actually going to do that except that I was afraid it would accent my long neck.
Woman 1: Oh - that's funny! I would love to have your neck! Anything to take attention away from these football player shoulders of mine.
Woman 2: Are you kidding? I know girls that would love to have your shoulders. Everything drapes so well on you. I mean, look at my arms, see how short they are? If I had your shoulders I could get clothes to fit me so much easier.**

well it wont be rude since u said they are informal with each other and do jokes etc.....unless the tone is clearly rude or insulting.....but it all depends on how the other person takes it.
personally if i was their i wouldnot have liked someone asking me 'do u live under a rock?' that too for such a small thing......i dont know why some people expect you to know everything.....agar kisi ko nahi pata tou usay bata do..simple.
there is one point though....may be B was rude coz s/he found A rude when s/he said 'I only know about the ones in the red bag, never seen any in purple or blue bags.'
You see, I thought because it was something so SMALL, I thought an expression of that sort would be more appropriate. For something more serious I wouldn't have made a remark like that.
It's not such a big deal. It's just an exaggerated comment. It's not like saying "What, are you like retarded or something?"....which would be considered more rude....and depending on how close the friendship is, it might not. Let it go. :)
Also, you will NOT know everything about everything. If it wasn't a bag of chips, then the same comment could be made for something else (bigger or smaller) that you didn't know about. Applies to everyone.
They are, which is why I didn’t think it’d be so offensive.
Wrong there was a guy in the equation.
LOL uh..
The verdict… B got annoyed and said "you getting offended over a comical everyday expression and thinking it’s supposed to be rude proves you DO live under a rock!
The insult is in the ear of the listener ... if the listener doesn't even know whether it was intended rudely or not ... then it can't be rude at least not with the intent to sound rude ...
In essence using hyperboles and ironic or sarcastic imagery is rudeness - but it can be placed for emphasis as well or instead ... Personally I try to avoid using the language ... but if anyone uses it on me ... then I try to consider them to mean well by saying it - i.e. without malicious intent.

Great post. I agree with what you said. In my case, I used it for emphasis and just for a comical effect. Also, another thing to take into consideration is, if someone says something that seems rude, but they explain that wasn't the INTENTION, then it shouldn't be taken to heart.
Psudo, in that case maybe the friend was having a bad day and took it offensively. I would just let them cool off and say you didn't mean to offend them and it was a joke.
lol this reminds me of Patrick, he lives under a rock now if spongebob said it to Patrick he would get upset too, and Patrick actually lives under a rock. No one wants to be reminded that they're stupid even comically. :)

Dude pass the remote to some one else... take a walk in fresh air..

Umm, I don't know about that because I say that about myself somtimes too because hell I don't know everything. This was said to a friend..a good one at that...who pesudo is on a joking basis with.

Ah, but you see the person I said it to doesn't actually live under a rock, nor are they stupid. They're "supposed" to be a good friend who I can easily joke with.
