Is this our war or not?

Whenever the issue of terrorism is discussed, people say that it is not our war and we have been pushed in America’s war. There were no suicide attacks before 2004 but our stance of siding with US is what has made the extremists go berserk. Pls analyze the fundamental question: “Is this our war or not? and What should have been our strategy post 911 to avoid the troubles we are facing today?”

Re: Is this our war or not?

good and pertinent question.

Re: Is this our war or not?

It became our war the moment Taliban crossed into Pakistan with AQ allies and took safe heaven and actively started attacking the other side. We might have been ok with Taliban in the past, but they hosted Bin Laden who did his deeds, so why should Pakistan pay for his deeds? Did Pakistanis support bin laden crashing planes into WTC?

Re: Is this our war or not?

It was never our war. Just like the 1979-1990s was not our war. Afghanistan is its own independent country and we got hood-winked into it by the US. We were used as a proxy in the 1980s. Now that we are doing our own thing its unacceptable to the US and NATO. That's basically it.

Its been forced on us and now we have to deal with the consequences.

Re: Is this our war or not?

^ so you think we supposed to stay neutral after 9/11 when USA attacked Afghanistan? It was a bad idea to ally with USA on war of terror?

Re: Is this our war or not?

It was a bad idea to be involved in Afghanistan in general. Be it 1980s or now. We made a mistake by providing safe havens. We made a mistake by siding with the US. We should have closed the borders and kicked out all the Afghans 20 years ago.

Re: Is this our war or not?

^ I agree, we made the wrong choice in 79 and are paying for the past 35 years.

U cant say it was a bad idea we had no choice left
Go with america or ruin pakistan- back to stone age...
when ppl asked musharraf why r we going with US its not our war... he said... "america is waqt ek zakhmi sher ki tarha panje mar raha hai kahin woh hume na koi nuksan pnchaiye"

I hate it when ppl blame musharraf for this...
Musharraf ki jagah koi or hota tab bhi yehi hota ya shayd is se bhi bohat kuch zyada hota coz u know humare sayastdaan bohat "america pasand" uups i mean america humdard hai...
!!!!!paisey do inko yeh to apni saki maa bech dein mulk ki kya auqat hai !!!!!

Re: Is this our war or not?

^ Maybe we delayed our departure to stone age, but we are almost there after 7 years, no electricity, no gas, economy in tatters, record inflation and so on.

Re: Is this our war or not?

Agree about kick out thing!
It was possible to stay neutral in both Afghanistan invasions?
I think in both wars Pakistan was not in a position to stayed neutral.

Yess u r right but we can not blame USA or musharraf for this. Pakistani ppl do not deserve education, water, electricity, gas, job, safety, health, ppl living in a palace only deserve these things. Stupid ppl itni high expectations hai aap logo ki!

Electricity yahudiyon / goro’n ki ajad hai iski koi zaroorat nahi… laltan ya diye jalao jaise hamesha se jalate rahe ho

Par likh ke kya karoge ? Rahoge to jahil ke jahil!

Barish ka pani hai to sahi peene ke liye…Saaf pani ki ratt laga ke rakhi hai! Peena hai to piyo nahi to maro!

Gas se chula jalaoge ya motor chalaoge…bare unche unche khawab dekhne lage ho! Pehle bhi to lakri/ gobar jala ke chula jalate the ab itni shahensha mizaj kab se hogaye!!! Koi nahi gas maro aise!

Mulk hai to sahi ab is se zyada kya safety chahiyeh?

                Jahmuriyat mubarak!

Re: Is this our war or not?

We kept on nurturing this cancer for decades. Concept of jihad was misused to jump into Afghan war following US policy blindly. Even after afghan war, these groups were not disbanded and we kept them as our strategic asset. Our people could freely and without any problem, go to Afghanistan to get all sorts of militant training. I know my friends went there for fun and spent a few months getting training. Our institutions including army didn't do anything to stop this trend. Our people kept going in Kashmir in the name of jiahd. Much was happening under our noses but we kept sleeping thinking we are too smart. Then came 911. wade chaudhary sahib became angry and shook us awake from our deep slumber, warned us that we should clean up our backyard. We had to take actions against those who were freely using our land and planning for "jihad" here and there.
In short, it can be said that our own machines became self-aware and turned against us when we tried to contain them.

Re: Is this our war or not?

Here is my question why do Pakistanis only blame ourselves? Remember arabs funded these people. We don't have the money to feed them or cloth them. Arab charities donated to them. Arabs came to them for training.

Sure we housed them but there is no way we could have done all of this solo.

And as you can see with the TTP. They aren't ours. They are actually Afghanistan's and potentially India's.

Re: Is this our war or not?

**Though Pakistan is now better off than stone age eh!

It was worst choice alright. Musharaf sh!t in his khaki pants on one call. He should have dissociated with jehadis immediately after 911, should have handed over power to caretaker government and announced elections with in 60 days. He was most coward, double cross and stupid general happened in the history Pakistan army.**

Re: Is this our war or not?

yes that is is right. Can we sum it up as "it is all about money. it always was".

Re: Is this our war or not?

For how many years we have been asking this question to ourselves? :)

Re: Is this our war or not?

With the belief that some might stumble across it, but alas.

Re: Is this our war or not?

To answer your question is very simple. War on terror is not war of words but war of weapons and armed fighting. When we talk about armed fighting where army is involved, than to determine whose war army is fighting, one should ask few questions, and answer becomes clear:

1: Is army fighting within border of own country?
2: Is army fighting those who are challenging writ of state?
3: Is army fighting those who are armed and fighting back?

If answers to above questions are ‘YES’ then war is Pakistani war.

I believe, war on terror Pakistan army is fighting within Pakistan own border, is Pakistani war, because answer to all above in ‘Pakistan war on terror case’ is yes.

Re: Is this our war or not?

Our strategy of supporting Taliban started from 90s. Pakistan was one of few countries (others, Saudi and UAE) who recognized Taliban government in Afghanistan.
Post 9/11, we did the right thing to change the strategy but by that time it was too late to make people realize that we were on the wrong side of Afghan civil war. Support for Taliban was present from top to bottom in all echelons of society.

What we should have done after 9/11 was to make it a crime to support Taliban by action or by words. But it probably was impossible due to above.

In other words, I don't think we could have done any better than what we managed to do at that time.

However, now is the time to implement the strategy of criminalizing support to Taliban because people now understand what monsters they are. But again, that is not possible because such a law will make the two most popular parties, PTI and PMLN, criminals themselves.

Re: Is this our war or not?

With tens of thousands of our countrymen dead and the same for our soldiers yes its our war now if it wasn't before.
