in a way LBG is right we shoud not question what The Rasool(saw) taught us. when i give circles and someone asks me a question abt why this n why that i 1st say "because The Rasool(saw) or Allaah(swt) said so" but then u have to explain WHY. in that way if someone was to ask them in why we do such things such as prayer we cannot just say Because Allaah(swt) told us 2. this would neva work ig u r givin da'wah to the kuffar.
Again Pcg was just askin for the meaning of the hadith, i dnt think she was questioning it.
NO this hadith is probably NOT true! Actually there are MANY HADITH that arent true, and how do you tell if they are or arent? if they contradict with the Quran. If Prophet Muhammed PBUH is Allah's messenger, then surely he will not commit any act that goes against Allah's teachings. There are all sorts of fake hadith out there that have been added, or words that are taken out of context and altered, which make the hadith fake. please, dont follow which ever hadith goes against the quran, because you know very well that prophet Muhammed PBUH was very fair to his wives.
Excuse me. You need to have a brain first before you post.
I still am not understanding what the exact reason of the beating was? If you can even call it a beating, or a "poke" as someone else said. And there are loads of Quranic ayahs that command you directly not to beat your wife, so I'm assuming this was a light tap or something to admonish Ayesha. What I don't get is what was the admonishment for? For running outside?
It doesn't matter. The topic is not the article of wife beating. Its this hadith itself. I want to understand it, but its written in such a way, that I'm unclear about what she was admonished for?
Google wife beating and some text from this hadith. The entire article is on wife beating, and its really long. I'm not going to bother to do it, because its irrelevant and I didn't save the link.

Well then maybe you should Google up an interpretation by a scholar, rather than bringing it here for the average person to interpret for you. Just my advice
Now regarding this Hadith, keep in mind Aisha (rah)'s inquisitive nature and her young age. Also do keep in mind, that the Prophet had more than one wife. When the Prophet (sas) woke up in the middle of the night and walked out of the house Aisha probably thought that he might have gone over to his other wife's house, and hence rob her of her right because it was her turn to spend the night with the Prophet. And it was this very thought that made her follow the Prophet and spy on him.
When the Prophet found out about this he was upset and angry, and his reaction is stated clearly in the hadith.
One of the five requirements for a hadeeth to be classified AUTHENTIC (Sahih) is that that hadith should not contradict a anything thats more authentic, for eg. a Quranic verse. Its only after all these requirements are met, that a hadith is classified SAHIH and AUTHENTIC, and yeaa there are experienced master muhaditheen (scholars of hadith) at work, people who know way more about Deen, Quran and Hadith than us.
Phatima, maybe you are not one of them, but we have loads of people here who are self-certified muftis. I have a question. You can't answer it, then don't reply. Simple.
This whole thread reminds me on the incident we read in Surah Al-Baqarah about how the followers of Mousa:as: continuously asked him to find the exact characteristics of the cow they were commanded to slaughter.
Interestingly or rather sadly, the focus of the discussion is totally off from the message of the hadith itself. The lesson in the hadith is discarded and the character and personality of the mother of the Ummah is being discussed with full disrespect and finger-pointing. On the same side, Rasoolulah:saw: is looked as someone who beat his wife and hence, did not followed Quran wa Ma’a zallah
In urdu, it is called Raai kaa pahaaR banaanaa…
The very same trait of jews is mentioned in Quran and at the end of it, Allah acknlowedges that such a thing has no good intention but a form of excuse for not following Allah’s command:
Al-Baqarah : 2
**67. **And when Moses said unto his people: Lo! Allah commandeth you that ye sacrifice a cow, they said: Dost thou make game of us ? He answered: Allah forbid that I should be among the foolish!
**68. **They said: Pray for us unto thy Lord that He make clear to us what (cow) she is. (Moses) answered: Lo! He saith, Verily she is a cow neither with calf nor immature; (she is) between the two conditions; so do that which ye are commanded.
**69. **They said: Pray for us unto thy Lord that He make clear to us of what colour she is. (Moses) answered: Lo! He saith: Verily she is a yellow cow. Bright is her colour, gladdening beholders.
**70. **They said: Pray for us unto thy Lord that He make clear to us what (cow) she is. Lo! cows are much alike to us; and Lo! if Allah wills, we may be led aright.
**71. **(Moses) answered: Lo! He saith: Verily she is a cow unyoked; she plougheth not the soil nor watereth the tilth; whole and without mark. They said: Now thou bringest the truth. So they sacrificed her, though almost they did not.

What did anyone say to give you that Idea? If this hadith is true, then hitting your wife on the chest is not haraam and is not wife-beating? Or is it? Or is the hadith wrong, or is the interpretation not what it seems?
Still, no one can tell me WHY Aisha was beaten, or tapped, or whatever you want to call it. I don’t see what action she did was WRONG. ?
"I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-Fire were women…[because] they are ungrateful to their husbands and they are deficient in intelligence. " (The Prophet Muhammad) Sahih Bukhari V 2, B 24, N 541
This realy seems to be very affective way of making women obey you, Masterfull…
PyariCgudia, while you are at it, add this one to your questionnaire. Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 54, Number 414
*"… He (Muhammad) said, “First of all, there was nothing but Allah, and (then He created His Throne). His throne was over the water, and He wrote everything in the Book (in the Heaven) and created the Heavens and the Earth…” *
Does this story make any sense? Notice that the contents of the parenthesis are from the translator. If there was ‘nothing’ how Allah could have put His Throne over the water? Where was Allah sitting prior to that? From the above hadith one perceives that the water was there before the creation of the heaven and the earth. There is no mention that God created water! What was holding that water? Don’t you have to have a space first to put the Earth in it? And don’t you need to have an Earth to contain the water? It appears as if there is an error in the order of creation.
I think she was poked or tapped or whatever you wanna call it because she doubted the prophet's actions and took steps that could obviously have put her very life in danger.
If she felt betrayed or felt the need to question his behaviour, then she should have simply come clean and asked him where he was going rather than follow him on the sly in an effort to catch him red-handed. Her actions showed disrespect, mistrust and carelessness.
I think he was disciplining her for that. He was angered by the episode and because he was dealing with his wife, he could stress the importance of his message through touching her; something he could not do with other folks. And that's all.....nothing more, nothing less.

Yep, the same way hinuds sell their daughters for a grand sum of $2. That must put the fear of Gods(pun intended) in all the female population in India.
