It becomes ‘slang’ to some extent in Desi culture, when you talk about relationship between a man & woman. I mean if some desi girl says ’ Falan mera yaar hai’. Its quite awkward.
Although, I observed woman /girls using this term quite often nowadays in a different way. e.g. Yaar tumhara assignment hogaya.. Nahin yaar!
