Every time I read about a country, someone will always mention how warm and loving the people are, and how friendly everyone was. I am curious, is there a country where the people are not warm and friendly?

USA... but UK beats it!
I have been to UK, and those people are so engrossed in themselves that they could care less about anyone.

I haven't been to UK, but a visitor can get everything taken care of without having to interact with too many locals. In Pakistan, everything is available, but it seems that one needs to know locals to get things done. If someone was visiting UK, they can look up tons for information on the internet, and have everything booked using websites and telephone.
Whenever I watch travel channel shows on visiting arab or Asian countries, they always seem to need a travel guide to get around. You don't need any of that in the US, Canada, or Europe. You can rent a car, book a hotel, buy tickets to tourist attractions, look up restaurant reviews and print out maps and info using the internet without getting ripped off or deceived.
Egypt.. is certainly warm..but not friendly!
Re: Is there a country where the people are not warm and friendly?
I've done a lot of traveling around the US (I live in Philadelphia) and I really think it depends on where you are - the culture varies so much region to region here. And even still, there are always going to be exceptions. But in general, I think people are really nice in the northeast - Vermont and Maine. New York City and Washington DC (where I used to live) - not so friendly. Philadelphia's got its issues but I generally think people tend to be pretty friendly and accepting here. I've made friends easily. I think California is overrated as far as friendliness goes, as is Denver in Colorado. Utah - a beautiful state but not a welcoming one. But the entire states of Misourri, Kansas and Oklahoma - I've only encountered overly friendly people there.
I was pleasantly surprised by people's willingness to help me find my way around Mexico City - definitely a place I would like to visit again one day.
In India, I was not crushed by friendliness in either Delhi or Agra - but both Ahmedabad and Hyderabad I found lovely.
In the UK, I've only visited London and a few towns surrounding - and it was not as warm and homey as I would have hoped, either. Given the cost of travel there, it's probably a place I would not visit again soon.
But then again, it really only takes a few really friendly people -or a few really unfriendly ones- for a traveler to make up their mind about an entire region. I live near all the historic sites in Philadelphia and if I ever see people standing around looking lost I'll ask them if they need help - hopefully contributing to a good impression of my city!

Re: Is there a country where the people are not warm and friendly?
I don't think such a country exists.
Re: Is there a country where the people are not warm and friendly?
UK for sure...
Re: Is there a country where the people are not warm and friendly?
UK??? whatever people… we Brits are great!! culturally diverse, friendly in nature… though tbh the north of england is definitely more ‘bubbly and happy’ than the south… maybe that’s why you guys have had a bad experience?? We southerners are quite arrogant and moody ![]()
I’ve globetrotted a lot… by far i would say the most ‘awkward and unfriendly’ place i have been to is the deep south in ye ol’ land of patriotic idiots …for obvious reasons maybe ![]()
France is also quite an obnoxious country… before you go there brush up on your spoken french people ![]()
India :p
Re: Is there a country where the people are not warm and friendly?
Italy! Which was surprising
Re: Is there a country where the people are not warm and friendly?
^ Havent been to Italy yet.. But my aunt said (who has been to Italy several times) Italian people are sooo not friendly..
France.. Especially when it comes to asking directions.. They know English.. We talk English and they KNOW what we're saying or askin.. But they REFUSE to talk English and give directions in French or talk back in French.. (Thank God I paid attention during French class in high school and I was able to figure out everything.. But if I'd been sleeping during class.. we were screwed..:D )

You must be kidding... how come usa is the one where ppl are unfriendly??
I would say France definetly, have been three timed so cant be wrong
Re: Is there a country where the people are not warm and friendly?
I know quite a few people have said the Uk is unfriendly but I guess it depends where you go. I live in the North East and whenever I go to London I find it cold and uinviting in comparison to where I live. However, I have come to realise that this is a way of life in any big city. People in Lodon lead such fast paced lives and everything is always go,go, go that people live by the motto ‘each for themselves’. People would be surprised how welcoming the UK is, just depends where you go. This applies to all other countrues to be fair.
I would say France and Germany have been the more, erm what is the word, ‘conservative’ in comparison to say Morrocco. Morroccon men in particular were more than friendly ![]()
In France it definitely helps if you can speak French and even then they are conservative and restrained. Likewise with Germany.

hey calm down New Yorker!!!! lol
I am talking about unfriendly relatives. (Maybe I should have cleared that b4 :)).
Not the people in general....
In general, I have not been world wide but the world has come to me - here in USA - as a melting pot.
I think Koreans are not friendly. They are very territorial. They are always in the "it's mine" mode. They think you will rip them off and are ALWAYS extra cautious.
that's what I think - I can't imagine going to their Country!LOL They will be like - hey get out of here - it's my country !
where do u think?:halo:
