Eight years after the invasion Taleban controls 80% of Afghanistan and is consolidating its grip with each passing day. The allies are beginning to lose more soldiers then they did in the past. This year a total of about 400 allied soldiers will be killed.
Is defeat inevitable for the U.S? How much longer will the U.S stay in Afghanistan?

If the American people lose interest and want an early end, then the Taliban wil have won.
Right now, the main stumbling blocks arent even the Taliban it seems. It has more to do with the complete failure of Karzai govt.
Rampid corrupation and incompetance have forced people to start siding with the Taliban.
No way man.. These yahoos NEVER even came cloase to taking anything over...
This is a country of 160 plus million people. The Army is 150 000 strong, including thousands of Police, intelleigence etc etc.
Even if they had gotten to Islamabad, where would they hide?!?!
Come on man, dont fall for the BS. The Taliban exagerate their numbers and their reach, and the everyone else including the media has a vested intrest in blowing things out of proportion...
and how does Pakistan benefit if USa withdraws and Taliban take over Pakistan?
Pakistan will be labelled as a terrorist state
Pakistan has nothing to gain really, from having the US win in Afghanistan. Perhaps some short term gains but thats all...
Not having the Americans there however would take the pressure of the Trible Areas in Pak. Suddenly the Taliban hiding there, would lose their raison d'etre.
Who is talking about Pakistan here? The discussion is about whether the U.S is headed for defeat in Afghanistan.
yeah but we live next to Afghanistan....since Iran hates the Taliban and all global jihadists will come to Afghanistan from Al Qaeda, to Chinese Muslims...they will use Pakistan as an entry-exit point...and thus our country will become a conduit for global terrorism....and India will be none to happy to label Pakistan in the eyes of the world as a terrorist state....

so Pakistan wins by having the Taliban back in Afghanistan?

The topic of this thread is "Is the U.S heading for defeat in Afghanistan?". Please say yes or no with your reasons and leave Pakistan out of it. The question is very simple.
so Pakistan wins by having the Taliban back in Afghanistan?
please explain how
Well, the reason the Pakistanis helped them get into power in the first place was so that the Afghans couldnt be used by the Indians. There is genuine and very really fear that India will try to surround Pak on both sides.
Another reason is that the Taliban were the only friendly govt ever to rule in Afghanistan. All others were constantly trying to undermine Pakistan by supporting Indians, and trying to start a Pashtun uprising in the Frontier.
If the Taliban came back, Pakistan would again have a buffer against Indians in the East. Also, the FATA situation would be resolved on its own.
Ofcourse, im not saying having Taliban back would be ideal in the long run, but it wouldnt be a disaster for PAK either.
