Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

Pardon me but I have no idea what is Diwali :sid:

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

^abhi christmas may poora maheena para hai..wait for that too

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

no disrespect meant but this is another example of what happens when we are not “exposed” to different cultures…
I can’t imagine NOT knowing what Diwali is…or Hannukah…or Navroz…or Kwanzah…

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

good question ! My fatwa is that if non-muslims living in muslim countries dare try to cook food for family and invite their relatives over because they have 3-4 eid holidays after long tiring months, they should be considered muslims according to the ‘rule of thumb’ :k:

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

I think I did somewhere

I’d quite like a Xmas tree this year but am scared of my mum coming over and wrecking it lol

Husband wants one.. We’ll at least put loads of lights up..

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

What would a non muslim do during eid holiday in Pakistan where everything is closed and all the muslims are having eid get togethers and celebrating? Is this person supposed to sit at home and pass his day watching tv? :frowning:

Is there something wrong if he goes over to a muslim friend’s place or arrange a get together at his own and take advantage of the long weekend?

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

Decorating the tree can be such a fun thing to do.

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

Don’t know if this is correct but I heard that Jews fixed Chanukkah around Christmas time because Jewish kids were feeling left out around Christmas time in the Christian countries.

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

What happen if we are either “exposed” or “not exposed” to different cultures? Will it takes us somewhere of gives more credit if we are aware from Hannukah, Navroz or Kawnzah etc.?

What I meant earlier that I just heard about ‘Diwali’ but don’t the ‘Diwali from its roots’.

Your’s fatwa my dear, as per your ‘rule of thumb’ the non-muslim should be considered muslims and muslims as vice-versa? :hmmm: ghalat hy

That is what I would like to know also.

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

It will lead to enlightenment.
It will lead to better inter-community relations through an understanding of each other’s cultures and traditions.
It will lead to a feeling of belonging and unity where one member of society will support another.
It will lead to people respecting each other and being tolerant of each other’s faiths and beliefs.

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

I agree with what you wrote above. However, all leading is towards another community which have different cultures, traditions, faiths and beliefs. So while making bond of better inter-community relations through an understanding, supporting, respecting, tolerant etc. with another, is it oky or appropriate if we go in negative direction of all above with/against our community/?

Just asking

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

What do you mean by negative direction?
Please give an example so that I can better understand your question.

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

Errr my husband and I did the very first year we both got married, mind you it wasn’t real, now we are contemplating a ‘real’ one since we have kids now we want to make it more ‘special’

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

Hope you are as excited when the real one starts shedding needles and it is time to dispose of it.

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

Royal Gala, that’s really sweet.. I love the idea of everything being lit up and sparkly..

What did you stick on the top of it?

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

I somewhat understand why people get all hyped up when Muslims celebrate Christmas or Easter…but this is Thanksgiving (not religious in any way).

All we do is eat a LOT of food with family and friends…nothing else (unless sales start before midnight, then in that case we shop until we drop).

Seriously that is all most people do on Thanksgiving.

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

Already taking preventative measures i.e in selecting the type of tree that doesn’t shed needles.

Thanks for your sincere input

The Islamic Ruling regarding Celebrating Thanksgiving Day by Shaykh Abu Laith Luqman Ahmad | The Lotus Tree Blog

Excellent article

Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

My cousin’s in laws in the US “celebrate” thanksgiving but honestly, all that happens is that family hangs out, that too decked in desi clothes, and there is good food. And yes a turkey. (That I don’t really like) I’ve been for their thanksgiving dinners and it’s just like a regular dawat and excuse for family to get together. On a side note, (since some people mentioned Xmas trees) I’m not into having Xmas trees at home during Christmas, but that’s my own personal opinion .

Re: Is Thanksgiving Celebrated in Your Household?

I mean where a person says lets do this or what is harm in doing this or that whereas another person says this is not our culture/tradition, then why would we do that regardless to either its harm or not.
