There have been lot of discussion and people keep on pointing so many things that are now considered as integral part of faith in Indo-Pak’s Muslims which are taken from culture.
Sufis and their followers are blamed for introducing many of these things to Muslims. Do you agree?
Was there any other way to spread faith in India without accepting some of cultural aspects of people living in India?
Does Islam is totally against cultural practices of people?
Re: Is Sufi Islam a compromise with Indian Culture?
Maybe Sufism in Indo Pak have some aspects of the cultures in the subcontinent. But Sufism is not localized in the subcontinent. You can find Sufis in almost all Muslim countries and they are there for centuries.

Yes sufisim flourished in Iraq and Iran and most of sufi saints of Indo-Pak belonged to these countries or parts of Afghanistan. But probably the variation of culture that was prevalent in Indian society did not exist in those countries.

anything that is against the Islamic beliefs is NOT forbidden. what is forbidden then? all those practices which run contrary to Qur'aan and Sunna...some practices have foind it's way into Islam which we term as Bid'aat. Bid'a has NO place in Islam so all those practices which are innovations must be curbed/shunned.

Sufism flourished in Egypt, and Turkey too. In Saudia it was suppressed after the rise of Wahhabism.
Anyways Islam is present in many countries having different cultures, and you can see different flavors everywhere. I think the basic reason why Islam spread in the past was due to the flexibility it offered. We will see in the future what impact rigidity will have.
Re: Is Sufi Islam a compromise with Indian Culture?
The most important personalities of Sunnis are Persians like Imam Muslim, Abu Hanifa, Imam Ghazali etc. Most of our Sufi Saints have been from Iran/Iraq areas as well.

But who will decide that something is against Islam or not. It seems that a common man in street got PhD in Islam in our part of the world
Re: Is Sufi Islam a compromise with Indian Culture?
Islam is pure, and Sufism is a most liberal and open flavor of it... Islam itself teaches lesson of humanity. Sufism is just another way to reach masses based on the principal of accepting every individual despite of cast and creed... Sufism is not qawali, but people in Indian continent were familiar with bhajan, and qawali might be the closest replacement of bhajan. In that aspect, yes it compromised...

I was listening to Dr Israr Ahmed and he made a point that Sikh or British rulers promoted Khanqah culture (with all qawwali, mehfil e sama culture) as they found it not producing people who could raise voice against their policies. It appears that Sufis from those Khanqah never gave tough time to oppressors.

This is quite clear reason. These sufis are still getting respect from Hindus, and Sikh. Ajmeer Shareef is one of those land mark where secularism speaks by itself...

dus bibiyon ki kahani is not sufi related.
Qawwali is hamd/naat in melody and music, which is present in many Muslim countries in the world. Not just subcontinent. There is no link with Bhajan or whatever. For example, music is common in ceremonies of Whirling Dervishes. Sufi music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
