You want me to believe someone who is a convert scholar and who is in USA and stating something completely new like this? What about the Arabian traditional hukka thats considered as smoking also. It is makrooh not haraam entirely. If he is talking something in reality to stop smokers from smoking thats another thing but Including it in a religion is completely haraam and biddat.
And there are not "anymores" like bible updates in Islam. Its called biddat. :)

Music is haraam. When our prophet Mohammad Mustafa used to walk through Makkah's roads and hear the first beat of someone playing mohseeqi in their house he used to cover his ears. I read this in some waqyah books.

i don't know about hukkah or paan but if they are harmful like cigarettes then they should be considered haram as well, it's common sense.
As regarding to Imam Zaid Shakir, he has studied Islamic law, arabic and Quran for many years in different parts of the world with the great ulema so I take his words for true over an average joe.

Common sense != change of Islam bro. If the scholor is speaking from other point of view that Smoking is makrooh (Allah ko na pasand) because it kills you slowly then it will make sense. In total haraam means you are doing something and getting paid for it. Committing a sin and being written down for it. So 2 almost the same things with different results.
I wouldnt even consider taking words from average joe. :)
The only person I might take words from is Dr. Zakir Nayek because he speaks from every point of view. Not just one.
Biddat is something you are bringing new to Islam. Biddatiz are outcasters of Islam. For example Ahmadies are Biddaties because they believe something completely different and have their own Quran editions (Tobah nAuzubillah.)

I read a waqyah of Hazrat Mohammad Mustafa (PBUH) how he got his nabuat and he saw jannat and dozakh. This punishment is from that waqyeah. Read up before blaming me for it.
EDIT: I have a question for you. What is the after life punishment for a person who takes interest? And for the person who gives it.

Hareem relax.. I am not putting a fight up with you. Its a good debate and I would like to discuss it.
So the first thing he said that is Smoking is Makrooh. :)
Then he went on relating today's science with Islam and said whtever endangers your life is haraam. Many died with lung desease caused by smoking. Which is true!
So smoking is makrooh but when it starting to endanger your life then its haraam.
I said this because Smoking hukka is one of Saudi Traditions. It is acceptable but it isnt what Allah would like. But when it starts taking over your life and endangers it it becomes haraam.
Is that correct.?

I wouldnt eat it even if it was halaal.
Ok..Pota or Oajri (animal organs) assuming it falls in to the same catagory. Shouldnt it be haraam also?
