Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

This sounds too coincidental. Btw, remember this is the guy who never condemned Taliban for attacking and beheading Pakistani soldiers.

TV channel should apologise to nation: Imran

ISLAMABAD - Continuing his tirade against Jang media group for the second consecutive day, PTI Chairman Imran Khan Saturday demanded that Geo TV should apologise to the nation for its baseless allegations and media vilification of the Army and ISI.
The PTI chief further said the allegations were levelled against defence institutions at a time when Pakistan was confronting security threats and terrorism from within the country and externally. He also alleged the TV channel for abetting in rigging in 2013 general polls by announcing pre-mature election results and becoming a surrogate media cell for PML-N.

Khan while addressing the party workers in Islamabad the other day said that eight-hour long malicious campaign against ISI by a TV channel could not have even expected from an enemy country.
According to a statement issued by PTI central secretariat, the PTI chief said while all state institutions must function within the law and constitution, it was unacceptable that media houses launched campaigns against any institution without adopting the legal route of providing proof and approaching the courts.

Khan observed it was ironic how subjective Geo’s accusatory approach was given its inability in the past to name known killers belonging to or affiliated with certain political parties who killed journalists like Wali Babar with impunity. Khan added Geo TV had also aided and abetted in the general election rigging from prematurely announcing the results when barely 30 per cent of the results had come in, to pre- electoral polls fixed to give certain outcomes. In the interests of independent media, the PTI kept silent despite seeing that Geo/Jang group had effectively become a surrogate media cell for PML-N and reaped financial rewards including cricket broadcasting rights.
“However now Geo TV has gone too far by conducting a deliberate campaign to malign the military and demoralise our soldiers. The ambiguous government posturing on this issue is equally condemnable,” the statement said.

The statement further said, “PTI stands by a strong independent media and has always held the patriotism and integrity of journalists like Hamid Mir and Ansar Abbasi in the highest regard and respect. But the Geo media house has exploited the situation to carry forward an agenda of baseless targeting of the military and ISI for which it should apologise to the nation.”

Parties wary of PTI protest call - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: A plan by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to launch a street campaign from May 11 is being viewed with suspicion by most of the major political parties, and even its coalition partner in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government seems reluctant to join it.

**They consider Imran Khan’s decision to launch the campaign against the alleged rigging in the last year’s elections ill-timed and suspect there is a hidden agenda behind it.

Reports that Dr Tahirul Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) may join the PTI protest is the main reason for the political parties to believe that Imran Khan is doing this “at the behest of undemocratic forces”.**

Though some opposition parties, including the PPP and PML-Q, believe that Mr Khan’s complaints about poll rigging are genuine and legitimate, they say the PTI should not go too far in its agitation as it can be detrimental to the democratic set-up and provide an opportunity to undemocratic forces to take advantage of the situation.

The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), a coalition partner of the PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has not yet decided to participate in the May 11 rally.

JI Information Secretary Amirul Azeem said they had not received a formal invitation from Mr Khan to participate in the protest campaign.

When asked what would be the JI’s response if Mr Khan sent the invitation to it, he refused to make any comment and said: “We will look into it when the time will come.”

PPP Secretary General Latif Khosa said his party was also a victim of rigging but it did not want to take any step that “may endanger the democratic setup”.

He said the country was already in a state of anarchy and Mr Khan should avoid taking any measure that could compound the situation.

Awami National Party (ANP) Information Secretary Senator Zahid Khan alleged that Mr Khan was making hue and cry over rigging though the PTI itself was the biggest beneficiary of the worst ever rigging in KP. He said Mr Khan was doing this to hide his party’s “bad governance and corruption” in the province.

PPP’s Farhatullah Babar, who is spokesman for co-chairman Asif Zardari, said, “both the PTI and the PAT have publicly expressed unequivocal and unreserved support for the security establishment in its standoff with a section of the media.”

As independent political entities, the two parties had right to choose their line of action “but their joining hands soon after public statements on the issue…raise questions about their motive,” said Mr Babar, quoting the statements of Mr Khan and Dr Qadri in support of the army in the ongoing tussle between a media house and the ISI after an attack on TV anchor Hamid Mir.

PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain said Mr Khan had “legitimate reservations” about the polls and like the PTI, his party also had moved election tribunals and courts to seek vote recount in different constituencies but had received no response. Therefore, he added, Mr Khan had the democratic right to hold peaceful demonstrations.

“His agenda remains to be seen,” he said when asked to comment on reports that Dr Qadri might join the PTI campaign.

PTI Information Secretary Dr Shireen Mazari said her party was exercising its democratic right to raise voice against rigging.

She rejected the apprehension that the PTI movement could be harmful to the democratic system.

“We don’t want to destabilise democracy. Had we wanted to derail it, we would have done it earlier,” she said.

The purpose of the movement, she pointed out, was to make the government realise that an independent election commission was necessary to ensure free and transparent polls.

She denied reports that the PTI had an understanding with Dr Qadri on the movement and said the PTI had given the protest call and any political party could join it.

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

IK was always military's man (with an exception of brief period when he jumped on CJ bandwagon). He supported 1999 coup & was doing bangra for Mush on streets for his fake referendum in 2000.

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

PTI and its international play boy leader has replaced JI which traditionally towed the line of military and acted as B-team for military for decades. What went wrong with JI and military is a mystery.

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

How is it new when its been like this for years? This discussion happened during the elections were all of you said it he was being supported by the ISI and Military during the elections and before.

Man you guys have bad memories or are extremely short sighted.

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

maybe he has realized that the real powers are with establishment who make and break leaders in Pakistan. In the recent past the tough time and media trial of Imran Khan I suspect was also due to him falling out of line with the military. IK is a pleasant face for the military to have on their side, I dont understand the other front which has been vociferously supporting ISI in recent times (LET/JuD).

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

Haha. From Jewish agent to Taliban supporter to Military Man. I'm surprised he hasn't been declared Narendra Modi's first cousin yet. Gotta give it to Pakistani people's love for conspiracy theories.

In regards to your second sentence, you might want to press the forward button, and realise how he also played also played pivotal role in turning the public opinion against Musharraf. The man who hasn't endorsed any military action and adventure from past to present is a military man.

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

Most of us did not support Imran Khan when he was with Musharraf, but I'd just want to point out that in the beginning even the Baloch (my personal experience with my class mates from university) had high hopes from Musharraf. What transpired later is history.

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

Pakistan's military and secret agencies have generally been very kind to him, not sure if it's due to his background and status, otherwise Imran has left no stone unturned to criticise army's involvement in US' war on terror since day one, their operations from FATA to Balochistan. His views on 71 war to 92 Karachi operation and role of army dictators in destroying the country are all out there. Pakistan's hyper active sensationalist media have enjoyed running media trials of him, Mullahs have also thoroughly enjoyed scandalising his personal life. But I don't think military has ever given a hard time, despite him being the most prolific military critic in the country. They could've literally destroyed him, if not have have him killed.

Lulz at the thread

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

Politics is the only socially and morally acceptable way of practicing opportunism. Unless we are talking about godhood or prophethood and are not eternally biased, we are well aware of the mutually-agreed concessions human beings have subjected themselves to, especially politicians.

Political parties create and wait for opportunities to stay relevant and — under democratic licence — they are entitled to do that. PTI has been saying it from day one that it has accepted the results, but not the rigging. Telling the party to accept the rigging without protest is a way to establish that once a government is set up, the rigging becomes legal.

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new “B” team?

IK wants to be PM so badly that he will do anything for it…even ride a tank driven by khaki power to the PM house. Sadly for him he has always been betting on a wrong horse.

JUI-F says Imran Khan is out to derail democratic system

ISLAMABAD- The spokesperson of Jamiat Ulema Islam Jan Achakzai, has said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s decision to launch protest on May 11, 2014 is aimed at undermining democratic system on the behest of outside lobbies who have already tasked Dr Tahir Ul Qadri with the same goal.

In a statement today, Jan Achakzai said that PTI had joined hands with anti democratic forces like Dr Tahir Ul Qadri to derail the system and attempting to sneak into power through back doors. “Why he did accept the results of May 2013 elections when he was fouled in Punjab elections, according to his claim? Is it not because he wanted to enjoy power in KP?” asked Achakzai.

He said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan had the backing of powerful lobbies in the West, that was why on a wink, he jumped into the fray by announcing protest campaign from May 11, 2014. He suspected that Imran Khan and Dr Ul Qadri will soon join a single platform to destabilise democratic system and create an environment for undemocratic forces to benefit.

About Imran Khan’s statement on Geo group, Achakzai said why Imran Khan did not criticise Geo when it attacked Idealogy of Pakistan, undermined concept of Khatam-e- Nabowat, promoted vulgar culture in the country and maligned Parliament and politicians.“Why now this sudden awakening of Imran Khan’s conscience after Hamid Mir episode, unless he has been winked to issue such statements?,” he asked. He said that Imran Khan is a master of U-turn and will somehow reverse his protest call as he regretted his joining of lawyers’ movement for restoration of former Chief Justice Chohdary Iftikhar. He said that Mr Khan has no commitment to democracy as he is himself a major beneficiary of May 11, 2013 rigged elections. He said that Imran Khan was simply making his outside patrons happy and trying to sneak into power through back doors. “But democratic forces will not allow his dream come true through this way,” he added.

Re: Is PTI/IK army/ISI new "B" team?

As if Maulana Fazlur Rahman does not want to be the prime minister of the country. Or we don't know if he went all the way to the US embassy and asked to help him become PM as he was the only hope in the given circumstances. We have come to a point to prefer a politician whose price tag is a chairmanship of a committee, over a man who has served the country as an outsider.
