Re: Is playing a guitar really unislamic?
^^ thats gotta b BS man.. music is the food of shaitan wtf? music is PLEASURABLE dude.. its good for your ears.. it has so many positive influences on your health also... its soothing... relaxing.. and has many other uses (depending on what kind of music it is) I guess its the radicalized taliban version of Islam that strongly condems music.. stop promoting that **** man :(
*I'm going back to listening David Guetta*
Homes...the prophet of islam was not a taliban...so if you had taken time to read the above quoted hadeeth of him you wouldn't have made this idiotic assertion...so the taliban hating non-muslims like yourself and your like minded muslim cohorts ought to know that the source of all these ostensibly arachaic and backward ethos were not the taliban, but the early muslims, including the prophet...
As for music being soothing and pleasurable...that's a huge generalization and naivety at best...you haven't been around the block to know how soothing the grunge, metal, industrial and obnoxious hip-hop, southern rap are...otherwise you wouldn't have made yet another ill-conceived and thoughtless statement
Secondly Islam has it share of alternative to music to sooth the soul and what not...e.g. Qiraat, talawat, azaan and namaz...
Re: Is playing a guitar really unislamic?
^^ Yeah.. I said it myself.. that it depends on what kind of music u listenin to.. i agree.. there r many "immoral" forms of music.. but there r many good soothing and pleasurable forms of music too.. come on.. we aLL enjoy music.... and it doesn't hurt anybody.. so why shud it be haraam?
as for the prophet (PBUH) being against music, are there any CREDIBLE "proofs" of that?? maybe he was just against the 'immoral' arabic belly dancing?
Azaan and Namaz.. are not 'alternatives' to music.. they ARE forms of music..
Anyway dude.. stop being so judgemental and stop using that tone with me.. I can indirectly diss at you too but I choose not to..
Re: Is playing a guitar really unislamic?
Theres not a single hadeeth or Quranic verse which forbids the playing of musical instruments, unless it is accompanied by other forbidden activities (i.e. consumption of alcohol).
Re: Is playing a guitar really unislamic?
Thankyou so much for you replies. I'm gunna tell my friend its better to play it safe than be sorry and forget about guitars altogether. I guess we will find something else to do for the summer....
writing in english is also unislamic.
Re: Is playing a guitar really unislamic?
Imaamul Aarifeen, Qudwatul Ulama, Abu Ali Ruhaazi (rahmatullah alayh) responded beautifully to the following question which was posed to him: ‘A person enjoys himself with musical instruments and claims that this is permissible for him because he had attained such a position where changing states do not have any affect on him.’ He responded to this question: ‘Yes, he has indeed attained a position. But that is in Jahannum.”
Wow! I guess Allah should thank him for making his job easy!
(I despise people that try and decide who's going to Jannat and Jahannam. Do good deeds. Try and invite others to good. Stop judging everyone!)

There is not a single hadith or verse which forbids the eating of human flesh.

Music is now being compared to eating human flesh. I have heard it all.
I really feel sad for those who will never allow themselves to enjoy music, it is one of the most enjoyable (and innocent) pleasures we can experience while on earth. But I am sure there is beautiful music in heaven as well.
Re: Is playing a guitar really unislamic?
hareemo1,
I'm very sorry to say this,
BUT you talk BS...don't take it personally...
belly dancing is very common in arab countries, so my question would be
why is this not haraam? Belly dancers are sorrounded by music btw...
Re: Is playing a guitar really unislamic?
@Seminole.........I am not comparing music with eating human flesh.
Music is disliked by the Prophet Muhammad(SAW) and the Companions(ra).
So how can we love music?

sorry dont get it.......What is BS?

belly dancing is very common in arab countries....why is this not haram?
Because we don't take our criteria of right and wrong from ' arab countries '...we take this criteria from Quran and Sunnah.
And please elaborate what is BS?

music is also from Allah...
Re: Is playing a guitar really unislamic?

Every good is from Allah and every bad is from ourselves.
Re: Is playing a guitar really unislamic?
There is music in nature. That is not from ourselves. Besides it's simplistic to say every good comes Allah and every bad from ourselves. What about cancer, plague, drought, retardation and brain tumors? Who are they from?
I hope to be there to see the look of awe on the faces of those who are anti-music who make it to heaven and are greeted with the glorious sounds of beautiful music.

there is a big difference between music in nature and music created by humans.

Cancer, plague, drought, and brain tumors.......you need to learn about global warming......anyway....here are the ayahs for your question.
Al-Qur'an....Surah 2.....155. Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere,
156. Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return":- 157. They are those on whom (Descend) blessings from Allah, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance.

Why? They both can be beautiful and inspirational. I wish you could experience the joy, fellowship and love for God that is expressed when a whole congregation is singing the praises of God. It is beautiful. Surely God is pleased to the point of having the equivalent of goose bumps over such displays of love and joy.

As I said your assertion that every good comes Allah and every bad from ourselves was simplistic. Also inaccurate. These ayahs do not change that pov.

No....at least not for me. Both cannot be the same.

Have you ever heard the ' Talbih ' during Hajj?
As I said your assertion that every good comes Allah and every bad from ourselves was simplistic. Also inaccurate. These ayahs do not change that pov.
Even when Allah destroys a nation...He does that for their good.
