Besides emotion and “hub -al - watni”, **do you think that Pakistan is now a safe country for international teams to visit if a heavy security is provided to them? **
I dont want to give my opinion upfront because that would make this thread biased…rather I am more interested in hearing the opinion of fellow guppies on this issue … but I do request that please don’t let emotions dictate your opinion! just comment on facts…
… especially those who live in Pakistan would be in a best position to comment based on ground realities!
also keep in mind, cricket is very different from any other sprot… in other sports, the match will be finished in 3 hours and teams will move to the next venue whereas in the test cricket, you are exposed on the ground for 8 hours and that too for 5 days in a row with a very predictable schedule and location…
Re: Is Pakistan a safe country for interntional teams to visit?
Don't think so - I would much rather wait another 5 or so years for international cricket to return to Pak than having another incident like SL09 and NOT have any international cricket for decades.
Re: Is Pakistan a safe country for interntional teams to visit?
NO
God forbid if some incident happen this time with BD (or even in the city when BD is there), we will go back to sq one. I'd wait for another 2..3...4 year
Re: Is Pakistan a safe country for interntional teams to visit?
No it is not safe. However I think ODI can be considered. Also teams like Aus, India, and England are a big no no as they will be the targets of the brainless idiots.
Re: Is Pakistan a safe country for interntional teams to visit?
After Rehman Malik's recent threat to the foreign team !!! i don't think it should be considered at all!!! ( the threat was, We will provide security to the visiting team).
Re: Is Pakistan a safe country for interntional teams to visit?
well if all all of us believe that the team shd not visit then why the hell PCB is so eager to bring teams...and not only the PCB, you talk to anyone in pak, he would think that all the international teams shd visit pak and by not doing so, Pak has been victimized of some sort of conspiracy...looks like ground realities are very different and pak is still not a safe place....
Re: Is Pakistan a safe country for interntional teams to visit?
Only pakistani agencies can give a definite answer. doesnt matter what everyone else thinks.
agencies has to decide if they want to take the risk or not. just like they did with SL team. they need to keep in mind that even a failed attempt on Bd team will keep the intl cricket away from pak for another 5 years atleast.
btw didnt afghanistan already visit pakistan? so i guess it is safe for countries with muslim majority and india then any western country.
Re: Is Pakistan a safe country for interntional teams to visit?
On an overall perspective - the country as a whole is not safe for international team's to tour. We dont want international cricketers to be locked up in hotels and taken in armoured cars to the grounds and back to the hotel.
Until the situation comes to a point where the intelligence agencies are actually competent enough to do their job, and the police has the capability to ACTUALLY protect the players, I dont think any international team should come to Pakistan.
Hate to say this because I remember growing up we would go to the National stadium everytime a big game would go on and we would get to actually meet legends like Javed Miandad, Saeed Anwar, Moin Khan, Rashid Latif etc - it would be great to meet these players in person and support them and the team on the ground.
However, the Sri Lanka incident was absolutely shameless - let us not forget that. We dont need any more bad publicity - we still havent gotten our house in order yet.
Even today in Karachi, we had firing at Neepa chowrangi - and with all the jihadis roaming around in Punjab freely - there is no point taking such a huge risk with someone else's life.
I would instead suggest that the PCB should work with the other boards - and try to arrange maximum tours in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand - we always struggle in those conditions, so while international cricket cannot come back to Pakistan just yet, lets use the time to get better in foreign conditions where we always struggle - not take the easy route by hosting games on Pakistan-like-pitches such as Dubai etc.
Re: Is Pakistan a safe country for interntional teams to visit?
I think PCB/Zaka Ashraf is moving too hastily on this. Yes, their goal should be to bring cricket back to Pakistan but I'm not sure if this is the right time. But it all depends on the players not the board, if they would feel safe playing in Pakistan. Especially if PCB has to get help from SSG Commandos to guard the teams.
Re: Is Pakistan a safe country for interntional teams to visit?
The time is ripe is and it is the right time. Situation has improved.
jee time is ripe for what...to attack BD cricketers?
zaka ashraf is such a foolish, i must say....he is simply trying to score a point here by bringing an international team.....to prove to his boss zardari that he can "deliver"... here is what I suggest..let zaka and his son sit in that armored car every time teams travel from and to the hotel.... you guys will be shocked but terrorists can attack pak team as well...as terrorists will achieve all of their strategic objectives by attacking the Pakistani team....no one will visit pak for next 5 years...people will be scared and pak govt will be under immense pressure.....
and why blame zaka....idiots like waqar, ramiz, aamir sohail all of them were yelling throughout the England series that the international teams shd visit pak and that pak is safe now...now just pray things proceed normally
