What’s your opinions on this??
Re: Is Obama deservent of the nobel peace prize??
no...he isn't...Nobel prizes are given for doing something and NOT for saying something...its all a hoax.
Re: Is Obama deservent of the nobel peace prize??
They probably got caught up in Obama hype. They must be regretting this decision. Noble peace prize ain't so noble any more.
Re: Is Obama deservent of the nobel peace prize??
Agree with kashur
Re: Is Obama deservent of the nobel peace prize??
We were discussing this at work yesterday and it got me thinking....
So he isn't deserving in the sense that: its called the peace prize....and he has to my knowledge...two wars going on....ironic! (But I guess as Kashur mentioned...the peace prize is loosing its face value!)
But, he may have been deserving because he addressed the muslim world in Cairo...and tried to build a bridge....I don't know if he succeeded but it was a really great speech...I highly recommend you watch it!
Despite the fact that I've always favored Obama and will be doing it being a democrat, I think that giving him the nobel peace prize is way too early as he doesnt have any accomplishments in his plate so far. Making speeches or having soft tone with the muslim world doesnt make him that eligible. Esp right after nine days of announcing sending 34000 new troops to Afghanistan makes the whole picture very ironic. I think he shouldnt have even recieved this award as long as they are "AT WAR"
Re: Is Obama deservent of the nobel peace prize??
i just wonder for what? unless he has enormous task behind the scenes for the world. its just making mockery of this prize.
i think apart from making himself first black pre
Obama himself shouldnt have accepted this.
for the prize, they have to american presidents in the past, clinton, algore, couldnt reward bush as soon he is gone, they just couldnt resist at all. :)
Re: Is Obama deservent of the nobel peace prize??
Not in the least bit. Neither were Perez and Arafat, but that was perhaps a case of jumping the gun in anticipation of actual peace in the ME.
With Obama, he is a waretime president who has inherited the legacy of a war mongering administration...whereas as a person he may have been considered (and rejected), as someone who is holding the very same office that led to atrocities, it is a joke beyond compare.
I maintain that political figures should never receive this award, unless it's for a personal deed/accomplishment.
But then, perhaps we'd all be better off in recognizing the NP for what it is...nothing in particular.
So in this light, let them give it to whomever they want...who cares?

Agreed! It's lost almost all value! Does anyone know how much prize money the recipient gets, and to which organization Obama is thinking to donate it to, if any?
Re: Is Obama deservent of the nobel peace prize??
Even most Americans themselves know that Obama did not deserve the price. He himself was surprised when he heard it.
So what it shows is that Noble Prize is under full control of Europeans. They did not like Bush at all. Therefore they picked the next American leader for the price who appeared to be sane. It was clearly a political statement from Europe.
It also shows that many previous peace prizes were also politically motivated. Those prizes were also based on what Europeans "felt" instead of them selecting a truly deserving individual.
In this context, the names of Iranian activist Sheereen Ibadi and those two Christian priests from E. Timor come to mind. Just like Obama's case, those two prizes were also given only to put pressure on Indonesian and Iranian governments.
This prize raises the profile of such dissidents, and bring their activities to limelight.

Nope.
