it will be a good practice for u for future searches as well.... :p
There certainly are varying opinions of Muslim scholars on this. Except for a very few who permit it, the most lenient stance is that it is ‘Mukrooh’ or permitted with resentment. If one wants to seek Allah’s happiness, he would certainly want to stay away from the Mukrooh.
Leaving aside the opinion of the Muslim scholars, listening to Music certainly diverts one’s attention from Allah :swt:. The farther you stay from it, the better off you will be!
Some people try to find peace of heart in it. For them, a clear response is the fact that Allah’s :swt: zikr imparts peace, not music. Not denying the fact that it does influence one’s feelings, music increases agitation and causes restlessness.
Allama Iqbal (ra) has also commented about music in his book “Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam.” He says that the biggest problem with music is that it can make you feel what you really are not feeling – it can take you to an artificial world. That is something not recommended for a Muslim, as he is supposed to follow Islam with his heart and mind in a normal state.

*A Beautiful Statement of Ibn 'Abbaas Concerning Music *
Taken from Ahaadeeth-u Dhamm-il-Ghinaai wa-l-Mua'azaf fii-il-Mizaan
A Muslim man said to Ibn 'Abbaas (Radhiallahu 'Anhu), "What do you say concerning Music? Is it permissible or is it forbidden?"
He responded, "I do not say it is forbidden except what is found in the Book of Allaah."
The man said, "So you say it is permissible then?"
Ibn 'Abbaas stated, "I did not say that." Then he (Ibn 'Abbaas) said to him, "Do you see that truth and falsehood will come on the Day of Judgement, so where will music be on that day?"
So the muslim man said, "It (music) will be with falsehood on that day."
Upon this Ibn 'Abbaas closed with, "Go then for I have given the ruling for you."
According to Allama Salman Ahmed Junooni, music is halal.
:-)
Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 58, Number 268:
Narrated Aisha:
That once Abu Bakr came to her on the day of 'Id-ul-Fitr or 'Id ul Adha while the Prophet was with her and there were two girl singers with her, singing songs of the Ansar about the day of Buath. Abu Bakr said twice. "Musical instrument of Satan!" But the Prophet said, "Leave them Abu Bakr, for every nation has an 'Eid (i.e. festival) and this day is our 'Eid."
Music is not prohibited in Islam. Allah Almighty in the Noble Quran allowed music and inspired it upon David peace be upon him. Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him didn't prohibit music unless it was used for sinful activities. Otherwise, music is allowed. It's been proven by science that music relaxes the mind and helps the person to gain energy and refresh himself. Most production plants in the industrial countries allow their workers to play music while working to helping them gain more energy.
Allah Almighty created music so we can use it in a positive and Islamic way to help us ease some of the burden of life from us. Even animals enjoy good music. In the Middle East, some people have their horses dance beautiful dances on music in many of the rural areas while they're celebrating.

Stop using hadith for your own purpose. The hadith u mentioned allowed singing. Singing is different from music. Theres is a clear verse in the Quran which prohibits use of Musical instruments. The prophet however allowed use of daff and other such instruments, banning only the stringed instruments that produce tunes.
And positive music?...what the hell is positive music? Somebody explain to me what positive music is and even if it exists how many people listen to it? The trash you put in you last two paragraphs and associated with Islam, please edit it. What kind of stuff have u been reading anywaz?

Sure here it is
Hadith Narrated Abu Musa: “That the Prophet said to him ‘O Abu Musa! You have been given one of the musical wind-instruments of the family of David.’ (Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Virtues of the Qur’an, Volume 6, Book 61, Number 568)”
Quran Verse 4:163 “We have sent thee inspiration, as We sent it to Noah and the Messengers after him: we sent inspiration to Abraham, Isma’il, Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and to David We gave the Psalms.”
Quran Verse 17:55 “And it is your Lord that knoweth best all beings that are in the heavens and on earth: We did bestow on some prophets more (and other) gifts than on others: and We gave to David (the gift of) the Psalms.”
In the above Hadith and Qaranic Verses, we clearly see that Allah Almighty did send the Book of Psalm to Prophet David peace be upon him. We also see that Allah Almighty called that Book a gift. If Allah Almighty allowed David peace be upon him and his followers to sing and play music.
The definition of the Psalm or Psalms:
A collection of sacred poems forming a book of canonical Jewish and Christian Scripture.
Often capitalized [Middle English, from Old English psealm, from Late Latin psalmus, from Greek psalmos, literally, twanging of a harp, from psallein to pluck, play a stringed instrument]
First appeared before 12th Century
A sacred song or poem used in worship; especially : one of the biblical hymns collected in the Book of Psalms
Since you are so determined to claim that music is Haram yet you are unable to tell me which clear verse of quran prohibits use of musical instruments. If you are so confident about it then you supposed to know that clear verse. Please enlighten me form your knowledge of Quran. As a matter of fact there is not a single verse in Quran that tells you that music is haram.
Aren’t that we supposed to do? We should use Quran and Ahadith to make decisions in our lives by using our common sense instead of following a fatwah from some pissed of hypocrite Mullah.
In addition, The sincere Muslim who is following the Quran will not find in the Quran ANY PROHIBITION whatsoever OF MUSIC OR SINGING. God is very specific and His commands are very clear regarding any prohibition given in the Quran. God, the Most Merciful, NEVER prohibited music or singing in the Quran. Any prohibition of music or singing that is talked about among some Muslims has no basis in the Quran. These prohibitions are innovations made up by some of the scholars and their followers who do not shy from refusing to follow the clear commands in the Quran and instead follow man made laws and books of Hadith and Sunna that contradict the Quran, contradict simple common sense and insult the message of the prophet Muhammad. These books of Hadith and sunna were written over 200 years after the death of prophet Muhammad. Prophet Muhammad :saw: himself followed and preached ONLY the Quran. These scholars and their followers, who failed to accept God’s law in the Quran, looked for different kind of laws in the interpretation of Imams (leaders), Sahaba (companions) and Tabi’in (followers). They invented their own law and claimed that “Music and singing are haram.” Those who are confused or ignorant with their Quran choose to follow the interpretation of these human idols and their laws and disregard the clear laws of God in the Quran. After all we should always remember that Quran is the book that God calls COMPLETE, PERFECT and FULLY DETAILED,
otc, let me be the first one to welcome you on this forum. Unfortunatley you didn't get a warm welcome from some of the members. Enjoy your stay here.

You obviously can't read or understand Arabic... in any case, and leaving aside your clear distaste for hadith and fatwas by "pissed of hypocrite Mullahs", can you show us where exactly in the Qur'an Allah allowed Prophet Dawud (as) and his followers to "play music"?
