read what you write before posting it. “ad hominem” and “ad hominem attack” are not interchangeable. if you don’t see a distinction between personal reference and personal attack then i don’t know what to tell you. i simply referenced a fact that you have openly discussed. i apologize if you felt attacked, my intention was only to highlight the comical irony not to attack you. maaf karo.

Here we go. Google define for “ad hominem”](Google Search) and “ad hominem attack”](Google Search). Also note that wikipedia redirects “personal attack” to “ad hominem”. Now go argue with the dictionary :D.

Now since you mention irony, I think its time I broke it to you, and most of you numbskulls with no sense of humour or sense of irony. My posts wrt India are, if you lot shared five neurons between the six or so of you reacting, easily perceived as thinly veiled irony. Admittedly it is a performance I strongly commit to and therefore i dont pepper my posts with ‘just kidding’ and ‘only joking my friend’. My victory lies in you making serious arguments to random pokes at obvious Indian sore spots,witnessing the general thin-skinnedness, and you of all people pointing out to me with all seriousness as ironic and comedic what is intended as IRONY and COMEDY. I have a feeling I could have reeled you lot along indefinitely with you making serious arguments on how you can eat Daal all your life and still be a good bowler and me talking about the glory of my Arab ancestors, how bowling fast is in my genes because we threw balls at Somnath instead of arrows… how goats run faster than lentils so obviously that will give you some pace etc etc.. but unfortunately offline life is taking precedence.

There may be some concern that me talking about my persona will diminish my ability to exploit it properly next time. Luckily somehow my ability to give you lot the vapours resets itself after a while. I think this might be the third time I’m making a post like this one.

please examine the wikipedia page properly. “abusive ad hominem” is the specific sub-category of “ad hominem” that is equivalent to “personal attack” as it pertains to this argument. an ad hominem is not necessarily insulting or fallacious. in any case, the personal reference i made was not employed in support of my argument so this is really not the appropriate terminology to be analyzing. i made an independent but related personal reference which was not an attack.

2. coming out of character like this is disappointing…something i have not resorted to. next time pay closer attention to just how serious others are being before revealing your cards in this counterproductive manner.

Why is only 'absuive ad hominem' equivalent to personal attack? If you are citing Wiki as reference, it redirects personal attack to ad hominem, not abusive ad hominem. Abuse is simply one form of ad hominem. I never claimed that the personal attack you made was abusive. You also mistake the word 'attack' for abuse. Attack is only attack in debating terms, where any strategy employed is termed an attack or defence. It need not be abusive at all.
