Sorry , i would never do it ' standing up ' ! havnt done like this in me life so far !
I dont think any body who cares about ' TahaRat ' would do it in standing position !

But I make sure nothing bounces off, I don't do it in the water but on the side 30 degree angle.

It comes from the Hadees which every Muslim knows according to which Holy Prophet Mohammed(SAW) relieved himself while sitting down.
But there are ahadees showing he did it standing up too. It depends on the situation , if you fear you will soil your clothes while you pee standing up then sit down. If you fear about your clothes getting soiled while you pee sitting down then do it while standing. If you will not soil you clothes in any case then it is your choice.
Many a times we are told only half of the story because we trust moulvi for guiding us in the matters of religion.
There are many who will tell you moulvi jo khata hay sahi kahta hay even if he tells you a false hadees or half the truth for whatever reason . And we do not dig deep down into the religion. Trust me religions is not as hard as many people will tell you. All it takes is deicating some time and some effort to understand it.

Islam Web - Fatwa Center - Urinating while standing
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
It is proved from Ayisha (Radiya Allahu Anha) that she said: “If some relates to you that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) urinated while standing, do not believe him. He (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) only urinated while sitting” Ahmad , al-Tirmizi , al-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah ]. al-Tirmizi 's comment is ‘It is the best and the most authentic narration on this point’ .
However, the following narration disagrees with above-Hadith. Huzaifah (Radiya Allahu Anhu) relates that “The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) went to a public garbage dump and urinated standing” [Reported by Imams Bukhari and Muslim ].
al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar brought the two narrations into agreement saying: ‘What Ayisha said is based on the knowledge that she had. Then, we think that such narration is related to what happened within the house’ .
On the other hand, the other narration relates to what happened outdoors. So, such narration was recorded by Huzaifah , who was one of the seniors of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam)'s companions.
As a result, there is no harm to pass urine standing or sitting.

Yes you are right .. this is so much that we all, always wanted to know about all male guppies .. 
But we’re talking about the etiquettes here, so what is better, sitting or standing?

7 - TO STAND OR SIT DURING URINATION.
A’isha: “Whoever said they saw the Prophet (saw) urinate standing, do not listen to them I saw him do it sitting.”
Hudhaifah said: “I saw the Prophet (saw) urinate standing.”
The Fuquha say it is the strongest evidence to do it standing.
- To avoid impurity
- To be able to see if anybody is there.
The Prophet (saw) did both, so we accept both. And anybody who says there is a recommendation either way, then it is an innovation.
