This whole thing about multiple wives…obviously no woman wants to share her husband and we all know that bit.
BUT lets say you were thrown into it by chance…is it possible to co-exist with a co-wife?
Has anyone ever seen such a situation?

I'm sure it is possible as it's quite common in some cultures.
I, however, will not be able to handle someone sharing my husband and I'm not afraid to admit it.

if it wasn't possible, i'm sure Islam would NOT have allowed it...it was my religious take. you don't have to go far, just look inside the US, there are christian cults where more than 4, sometimes as many as 25, wives are married to ONE man ranging from 14 years to 50 years of age. i saw one interview of those 'sisters' and they all seem to be very happy. again, we can NOT take everything as truth at it's face value. i think it's better off for all to just live with one wife. it's more peaceful that way :D

Too many situations such as this in our community...most turned out sour even though the "wives" were in separate homes but still apparently the husband was not able to handle them nor were they able to handle themselves - either both or 1 sought divorce after a few years. Women of today can't share, and men of today can't handle the "justice" required in the relationship. However very few did work out. 1 is that of an Imam who I believe is very just. He is from egypt and his wives are from I believe puerto rico and portugal or some county such as that.

It is possible...My mother's khala lived with her husband's first wife mostly.She even tended to the sick first wife in her last days.How she did that,I have no idea...!!

I can think about it if she can cook (scrumptious food) and clean diligently.
This is an age old debate I don't think any woman wants to willingly share her hubby but sometimes has to make do in circumstances.
I appreciate that it is permissible in religious and cultural sectors but if a man can't handle his woman wiv another man then he shud be bound by the same rules for himself

Yes if respect and love exist between two wives then everything can be worked out. Nothing is impossible. Our religion has permitted such but it comes with lots of responsibilities. And If a man fell short with even slight injust..then he will be questioned by Allah severely!. I have seen both good and bad situations. But it really depends on the circumstance of each case!.

I dont think I could deal with it...I would sit there wondering what on earth he is doing every minute of the day he isnt with me...is he scouting out a new wife to get to his quota of 4?
I would let him do what he wants but politely excuse myself out of the relationship.

May be I’m stereotyping since I haven’t met any arab women whose husbands have married again but the answer to your question would be, they aren’t really given a choice. They have to deal with it.

How do you know they are not really given choice and they have to deal with it when you never met them? ;)

Second marriages are very common among Arabs...not sure if they're given a choice or not.

I recently heard of one man marrying without telling his current wife.
He just showed up with a brand new wife and she just had to accept it.
She did...she had no choice.
